So... no show in Wichita next Sunday, Aug. 31st. Was going to be something early-ish with Dead Commuter and friends but... didn't happen. TIMC+DKZK and Dead Commuter will, however, still be rocking out in Tulsa at Monolith on Saturday, Aug. 30th.
This week was crazy... Dan & I played a LOT of shows... Saturday night in Columbia, MO at Eastside Tavern was rad. Ataraxic Ataxia played some soulful neo-classical/orchestral-ish noise stuff... Stress Ape killed it nicely... I had bike envy of several sweet fixed gears... Dan and I ate at the rather tasty mexican restaurant next door and drove home at 2:30 in the AM, ouch!
Sunday we played in KC at Drew's new place (Hybrid Hills) with Stress Ape and Banana Bomb. Was great seeing Drew's place and hearing about the impending ampitheater... more fixed gear envy courtesy of 816 collective folks.
Monday we played in Lawrence at the Haunted Kitchen. Strangely this was the first time TIMC had ever played there... such a rad place to play and see shows... Hairy Belafontes were rad... was great seeing folks and playing... even though we got shut down just after 11 to be nice to the neighbors.
Thursday we opened for Hawley Shoffner, Gunshy and Porches... Hawley was drop dead amazing... wow... Porches and Gunshy were rad as well. It was so nice to see Matt (Gunshy) do his thing again.
And now, to wrap up the week, we played at North Vs. South in KC at Big Al's Speakeasy... a place I couldn't even find an address for at first. Saw Albert Alfonso play some rad acoustic-ish numbers and then we played. The room was big... I suppose we were loud... a couple of die-hards with ear plugs stuck it out. Dan & I had a great time... played Subteranean Homesick Blues as well as requested Joe Hand's Ultimate High for Jeffrey Kologe... who earlier had picked up the mic which I had thrown down to the floor to wrap up a song.
At some point real soon I will post photos and video of Japan. The fabulous Unresort will once again assist me in making a video/DVD of the tour. Should be absolutely sweet... the tour was! Mountain bike up 6,000 feet amongst hot springs... shows in seven cities... amazing food... and to top it off... I sat in on drums for a Croatian band called Seven That Spells... those dudes were seriously rad and they told me a REALLY bad joke about a bear in the woods, a rabbit and a gas station attendant... I've been wowing people ever since I got back with that joke. Thanks guys.
p.s. yes... I saw Pat Metheny play for the First Circle tour a very long time ago and it blew my mind and inspired me quite a bit. Thanks Pat... both for the inspiration and for the album/blog title.
