Bad Girl Streets

You may look at Bad Girl Streets and say, "oh, she's just eye candy." or "oh female rappers can't spit." But she is much more than that and she has set out on her musical journey to prove the naysayers wrong. With a perfect blend of gritty street attitude, playfulness and sex appeal, she is poised to take over the game and sure to win over fans from all corners of the globe.

Check out this interview one of our guest correspondents

OHOTF: When was the first time you started rapping/making music?

BGS: I started writing music in 2006 when I was introduced to Bam of the Jungle Brothers. I didn't start taking a career in music seriously, or start recoriding until around 2008.

OHOTF: Who are some of your influences or favorite artists musically?

BGS: My favorite female emcees are Lauryn Hill and Foxy Brown. I'm also influenced by artists like Kelis, Lisa Lisa, Janet jackson and Mary J. Blige. As far as male emcees are concerned, some of my favorites are Biggie, Jadakiss, Mobb Deep, Fabolous and Joe Buddens.

OHOTF: What's your opinion on female MC's in 2009?

BGS: Female MC's are pretty much nonexistent in 2009. I feel like there is no originality, nor is there unity or a positive image for young women to look up to. The labels aren't paying enough attention to us. They pass alot of talented female rappers by and go for the eye candy just to make record sales. It's sad.

OHOTF: Female MC's, who do you like or dislike, overall?

BGS: Overall, I love Eve, Foxy, Remy and Lauryn. Those are the only female MC's that I particularly care for. I honestly don't pay any mind to anyone else.

OHOTF: What are 2 things about yourself that people might not know?

BGS: Well, one thing that people might not know is that I went to 6 high schools in total. I was a troubled teen, but I decided to turn my life around and I ended up graduating high school Valedictorian with many scholarship offers. Another thing that people might not know is that I can play the acoustic guitar very well. I write alot of R&B songs even though I'm not a singer.

OHOTF: When Is your mixtape dropping, what's the title and who can we expect to see feature wise/production wise?

BGS: I have a mixtape that I'm doing with Freck Billionaire that's dropping October 20th. My solo mixtape is dropping December 2009. I don't have a date yet, but it's titled "P.A.I.N - Paper's All I Need". There will be features from Freck Billionaire, Uncle Murda and a few up-and-coming rappers from across the nation. There will be production from Young Thrilla, The Runners, Cash Fargo and many other talented producers that I have alot of respect for.

OHOTF: What do you do to prepare yourself before going into the studio?

BGS: Before I go to the studio I try to meditate and center myself. I try to focus on any experience that relates to the song or verse that I'm recording so my energy and attitude can go along with what I'm recording.

OHOTF: Do you think an artists enviroment plays a big role in how they shape their artistry/craft?

BGS: Yes, very much so. I've been around negative and non-progressive people and in enviroments with bad vibes and auras and it would wear me down and mess with my thought process and productivity. I've learned to stay away from negative influences and places because I don't want it.

OHOTF: How can people get in contact with you?

BGS: The easiest way to contact me is via Twitter. My url is www.twitter.com/badgirlstreets. I can also be contacted via email StreetGirlMusic@gmail.com.

OHOTF: Any last words/shout outs?

BGS: Yes, I must shout out everyone who's been supporting my music and riding out with me from day one. Anyone who's ever dowloaded one of my songs, or told someone about my music. Freck Billionaire, Animal Steele and the rest of CBL. My beautiful borough of Brooklyn. And The Official Home Of The Femcees of course, for taking the time out to interview me and for paying attention to us female MC's. We can change the game, one female rapper at a time.
