I'm not sure how we could do it, but something needs to be done. I'm just as guilty as anyone else in not paying enough attention to Darfur. I had those times when I'd be deeply engrossed with reading up on it and contacting my congressmen, but then I'll just stop and move on, pushing it to the back of my mind.
It's still happening though. Close to half a million people have died and yet we've still done nothing. It's not going to just stop. The killing will continue until we come up with some kind of solution. We must put more emphasis on finding a solution. It seems like we're waiting around for something to happen. I can understand that Iraq takes up most of the headlines, but why isn't Darfur right underneath it. It's like we just glance at it occasionally.
As I said before, I don't know logistics of what we could do, that's up to the U.N. and superpower countries to figure out (U.S., U.K., France, Russia, China (who still works hand-in-hand with the Sudanese government), Japan, etc.) We have the power, we just need to use it. We have an obligation as human beings to do something. We can no longer look on as these terrible atrocities happen. I don't know what I could do. I'm not in the position where I could leave and go help out over there (and I would if I could) and I don't have a lot of money to give away. But I can keep the issue alive. I can tell family and friends. I can love others and help out where I can. At least just look it up. Read a few articles on it. Rent a documentary.
We can't let another Rwanda occur. We said it wouldn't happen again.

I read this a while back. And was happy to know that someone actually pays attention to what's going on in Darfur. I completely agreed with all that you said, then (I'm ashamed) I continued to do nothing. I didn't read up anymore than I could've and it's like I completely just contradicted my agreement to this blog.

I remember watching Hotel Rwanda. It was horrific. I had never even heard about it til it was a topic in our class. And the impact it has was tremendous, I was disgusted by how someone could do that, or let that happen.

And it's still going on today in darfur, how can we overlook something like that? It's absolutely horrible.

ugh. No one has the right to take the life of another. People need to get informed about Darfur. I still know people who don't know what it is or what's happening there. blah..
