Who Gives Kudos:

August 27, 2009 - Thursday

Category: Blogging
It's been way too long since I wrote a Cheers and Jeers blog!

Cheers: to Kevin for setting up the amazing Jennifer Batten house party this Friday night. I can't wait!

Cheers: to Geoff Byrd for getting back to music and back to Portland. We will kick it this Friday and celebrate your birthday in style!

Bummer: to the poor guy who drove a brand new Saturn sports car off the end of a car carrier truck this afternoon, and forgot to extend the drive rails off the back! DOH! He realized what he had done when the car hit the ground nose first. This is the car:
Photobucket
Cheers: to DJ Myke for taking the Anonymous Notes challenge and pimping me in his blog.

Jeers: to the City of Portland for raising meter rates AND charging on Sundays.

Jeers: to the City of Portland for eliminating Fareless Square on the downtown bus routes. I know, I know, you can still take Max and the street car in Fareless Square.

Cheers: to the readers of The Portlander for making my Storm Large article the most-read article on the site for the month of August so far.

Cheers: to Rick's Wild Seafood food cart on 3rd and Ash in downtown Portland. Most awesome seafood chowder, Mahi Mahi tacos, and halibut fish and chips.

Jeers: to Murphy's Law. I had an audition for four small roles on the TV show Leverage the one week this summer when I was out of town. Really bad timing.

Cheers: to psychic Suzanne Jauchius for giving me an advanced copy of her book, and giving me a great interview for an upcoming article in The Portlander. Stay tuned.

What else? Did I miss anything?
J

It didn't get totally trashed. I woudn't want to be the person taking delivery of that car though, because they may not say anything, and you wouldn't notice the damage unless you looked underneath.

Cheers to you, for granting me the ultimate segue for this week's Blogophilia.

Thanks for the inspiration, and being the coolest kid on the blog block.

And, that raising of the meter rates was just wrong...

You didn't mention Cheers to Starbucks for lowering prices on some of their tall drinks; but then you probably would have wanted to mention Jeers to Starbucks for raising prices on most of their grande and venti drinks.

I feel for Portland.  These ARE tough times for cities everywhere, and after all, if you can afford to drive at all, even on Sunday, pay the piper.  We Americans still pay far less in taxes (and fees) than do most of the rest of the developed world.  Just saying ...    :-)

A picture of the broken car would be cool.  And, it would be a huge public relations problem if the car was not sent back to the factory for scrap and actually WAS delivered to a customer...
I smell a follow up story....

The damage to the car wasn't visible on the outside. You would have to crawl underneath to see it. I was so stunned as I watched it that I didn't even think to pull my camera out. I wish I had a picture of the car when it was half on the ramp and half off.

A local Jackson based (steel) scrap yard with national operations had a contract to shred new GM vehicles that came out of the factory or its distribution system if they were damged beyond repair, they (GM) didn't want any chance the vehicles made it back into the supply chain "as new" and risked tarnishing the brand...

Of course, ALL the auto companies have re-work and ding repair departments at the end of the assembly line for minor things...

We with Detroit auto roots learn lots of cool stuff from the trenches that "outside the biz" folks never find out about.

Sorry. I was too stunned to take a picture.
