Current mood:  awake
New Zealand label 'Samurai Music' continues its flow of quality releases from the likes of Klute, Mosus & SPY, State Of Mind & Trei, & Dose with another 3 in a row.

FOREIGN EXCHANGE SERIES

First off will be two releases in a row in what is called 'The Foreign Exchange Series'. So much of our time is spent changing cash into British Pounds and back again, we decided to have a series of releases devoted to splitting the musical currency so to speak. One side UK, and one side NZ, both sides quality! Each release comes in a custom designed 'samurai Foreign Exchange' sleeve and is pressed on blood red vinyl.

NZ005X - FOREIGN EXCHANGE PART 1

A/ SOUL INTENT – COLD BLOODED
Nottinghams finest kicks off the A side with a sloped out grind that had been languishing in dubplate land and played by many. Fuzzed out stretched reeses and sinister horns slide around over a rhythm guitar line and classic breaks. One of the most prolific and consistently quality new artists around, look for more from Mr Soul Intent on Samurai Music in the near future. DJ Support has come from Physics, Eveson, Sabukuro, Randall, Doc Scott, Commix, Die, Hobzee, & Geoff Presha and so many more we thought it might get tedious

AA/ LUCA – BREAK AND ENTER
First release of what will be very many for the new musical force in New Zealand Drum and Bass, Auckland resident Tim Webb aka Luca. Matching the swing of 'Cold Blooded' perfectly, 'Break and Enter' owes a debt to Boymerang and early DJ Krust. Stepping breaks and menacing efx lay the foundation for an angry growl and some serious guttural sub bass. A tune that feels like it tells a unique musical story is rare these days, and 'Break And Enter' is one of them.

NZ006X - FOREIGN EXCHANGE PART 2

A/ HOBZEE & ZYON BASE – RAIN ON LENS
Two guys that live in different parts of the UK and collaborate almost exclusively online, Hobzee and Zyon Base hail from Chatham, UK, & Belfast, Ireland respectively. Supported by Lynx etc etc etc, this tune sets a sombre scene that brings back memories of the golden years of Drum and Bass. One of the heaviest sub lines in recent memory, the emotive power of this tune can not be denied. One for the true connoisseurs of this music! DJ support from Lynx, Survival, Geoff Presha and many more!

AA/ LUCA – THE RED SKY
'The Red Sky' compliments it's A side perfectly. Gliding, emotive synths and efx writhe around a unique break that provides this tune with energetic pace. A subtle indistinguishable vocal weaves in and out of the tune, with a solid bassline adding to the momentum. A truly special piece of music that takes up residence in your head and always adds a touch of class to its environment.

TREI SOLO DEBUT ON SAMURAI

NZ007 – TREI – SHAME / VIBRATIONS

The dancefloor once again gets paid a clean up visit by Wellington, New Zealand local Trei. 'Shame' comes stomping in with king sized breakboots and forceful determination. "Do You Believe In Shame" is asked by a curious female vocal while a whirring mid range bass is winding itself up in the backround. "I'll Be There For You" is the exclamation as the hammer is well and truly put down with a thunderous sub added to the writhing sonics. Further beat trickery completes the vibe, but in all seriousness after that drop, it's not often this tune is refused a rewind. "Vibrations' was snapped up by Samurai in its very early stages, the major selling point being the distinct 'superfuzz' riff that propels the drop of the tune into extreme cyberfunk individuality. Sampling one of our favourite movies also helped persuade us that this tune was destined for the label, but once again the bottom heavy groove that pins the drive of this tune sealed the deal and the frenzied responses from dancefloors has been the icing on the cake. Limited edition transparent green vinyl 10" pressing to complete the amazing full colour artwork once again provided by mr RQ.
