written by Coyote Edgefest of WZRRTENTH TO THE MOON was ab-so-fucking-lutely (I used to play the lutely in my youth, BTW) er, ab-so-effin-lutely
mad---just a crazed, seemily possessed group of people who looked far more like zombies who had just risen from the grave than, like, real people--? Almost an odd collection of seemly street folks, who knew how to rawk ass with a seminal industrial vibe, channeled through some of the louder and the madder moments of KING CRIMSON--any who, their tribal rhythms and multi-dummer approach created a cacophony of sound that was just marvelous--I was a little drunk, I'll admit, but I never thought a collection of six dudes and 1
awesomely bodied zombie-chick-bitch screaming 'TABLE TENNIS' could be, or would be, as entertaining as this !!!
I've been told these dudes have been at this for awhile, kind of moving in a netherworld of their own with slight musicial nods to so many different genres their sound begins to defy any ONE genre, which in itself is pretty cool--and the execution was so wonderful and tight, without much apparent effort, it was clear to see and hear that these fuckers had this shit down and we're effin pros--
The lead singer/drummer was delightfully mad in contrast to the other 5 who raised alotta hell and noise without getting too apoplectic in the process--
since it was a showcase TENTH TO THE MOON only had 30 minutes so they mowed through a startling original repertoire and ripped the shit outta some of their better tracks, including 'House On Stilts' and 'Coming To Call' which played even tighter and more amazing live than on the new record--
In short, these fuckers brought a smile to your face through their sheer energy and self-contained madnesss, with the sound the spewing from the stage just compelling as all hell; It's hard to believe they've been around over ten years and are only NOW getting some attention and national exposure courtesy of STICKFIGURE, which may be their first record deal, although I'm not totally sure that's true--what I know IS TRUE-
that is --
tolling in obscurity is often the fate of those artists banging away in the alt rawk, post-punk, modern rawk scene when they have been burdened with the unfortune ball and chain of having been born and/or relocated to the deep south; for trying to procure an audience and sell this post-punk, industrial sound in the deep south, where old school rock n' roll still reigns, is about as hard as trying to fill the Grand Canyon with multi-colored moth balls--I know that shit myself, all to well !
In any event,
TENTH TO THE MOON is a must see for anyone looking for compelling music that rawks ass out of the mainstream bull-shit train that is the common fodder from our
wonderful modern media (sic): I will definately make plans to see them again sometime in the future when they do a longer set--
