Alright...

For the VERY few that are actually reading this, I hope that you like science fiction, and are willing to help me out. I've grown VERY tired of the movies that have been forced on us from the writers and filmmakers in recent decades. You know what I'm talking about? Those mindless big budget blockbusters that have no heart? Popcorn movies! They fry my brain. :(

Star Wars, Trek, Stargate, Matrx, Firefly, Galactica, and a lot of others could be mentioned here as being respected and great, but I'm looking for some less known things to rent or download.

You know, GOOD sci-fi!

Special effects aren't as important to me as a good story, and some good character development, as well as a good and plausable premise. (Well, the word, "plausable" when talking about sci-fi can be a broad term.)  That's something that seems forgotten with newer films.

For example, I'm talking about movies like Logans Run, Rollerball(the Old one), Deathrace 2000, Enemy Mine, V, Mad Max... Get it?

Based on that short list, if you're a sci fi fan, you probably have an idea of what I'm going for.

If you got any suggestions of what I should watch, please let me know!

Oh, and while you're at it... If you got any good horror suggestions that seem to fit into this category of forgotten or unknown greats... I'd love to hear them as well!

Thankya!

That's the thing Red.. I'm weird, if you havn't figured it out yet.

Dr. Who has been around for YEARS. My problem with that is, because I'm weird, I can't just start watching it without finding a way to go back and watch EVERYTHING I missed first. Believe me, there are a lot of things I would have got into IF I weren't weird like that. :(

This really isnt ALL that Sci-fi but I just got finished watching the movie "The Hunt". Really weird so it should be up your ally. Kinda boring but it also gets more interesting the more you watch it. Im glad I didnt waste my money renting this...thank God for Netflix instant play! But anyways..."catch" you around! ~Bites & Kisses~

I highly recommend "Donnie Darko" (2001) and Primer (2004).

They are both "cult" favorites, and get better with each viewing (both may even require a second viewing :-).

Hope you enjoy them :-)

I loved Dune, Forbidden Planet, Blade Runner... 12 Monkeys, Altered States (would that be sci-fi?) Clockwork Orange, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (I liked the original better than the remake), Outland, Quest for Fire, the Beastmaster, Sinbad, Dark Crystal, Philidelphia Experiment, Starman (jeff bridges), I also liked the Fisher King (not sci-fi, but great story with Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges), Clan of the Cave Bear (Daryl Hanna), Night of the Comet. Fright Night, Lost Boys, I also liked Flight of the Navigator and The Thing, They Live and Predator. A strange old movie, if you like 'weird' movies is "Being There" is slow and simple, but a good one.

More of my favorites: Heavy Metal is really sci-fi/fantasy animated... but awesome. It's not sci-fi but definitely fits into the weird/old category, have you seen "Harold & Maude"?
