Current mood: blessed Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes
That certain crispness, that intangible electricity has returned to the air here in south eastern lower Michigan and not a moment too soon. I'm relieved, as I don't deal well with the hot, humid weather that the midwestern summer is famous for. Maybe I shouldn't blog too soon.... As Bulgakov wrote: "The climate of Michigan is well known for its caprices."
This summer, though not quite as brutal as normal so far as temperature goes, has been kind of a crazy in how much we're actually getting done. There have been some highlights. We're just now wrapping up the production of our first long player (no ETA yet, but some time early next year on the Siltbreeze label) and our own contribution to the Sub Pop singles club, as well as some other odds and ends.
As for me, I haven't really had the chance to kick back in a while, working two new jobs and finishing up these records. I guess that's why I'm especially excited to announce that Tyvke (note the new name) is going to get a chance to hit the road for the first time in a while. Doubly exciting is the chance to scope out some new territory. Check out these dates:
9/25 Columbus, OH (w/ Guinea Worms, and special guest TBA) 9/26 Louisville, KY (w/ Suspected Terrorists, Metal Bubbles) 9/27 Memphis, TN (Goner Fest) 9/28 Atlanta, GA (w/ Vivian Girls) 9/29 Knoxville, TN (w/ Vivian Girls) 9/30 Charlottesville, VA (w/ Vivian Girls) 10/01 Baltimore, MD (w/ Vivian Girls) 10/02 Philadelphia, PA 10/03 New York, NY (w/ Blues Control, Thomas Function) 10/04 Brooklyn, NY (w/ Cause Co-Motion!) 10/05 Montreal, QU (w/ Vivian Girls, Thomas Function)
Another reason to be excited is that we have a new single out, and we will have these available for sale at all of our tour dates (and perhaps select points in between) unless we leave them on the front porch in the all the hub bub. It's a 3 song 7 inch on M'Lady's Records, with the tracks "Sidewalk", "Flashing Lights", and "Future Junk", and yes these songs did see previous release on our Fast Metabolism cdr (ltd edition 150 copies), so if you don't want these songs on wax then don't buy it and save your cash for the full length, plenty of new songs hopefully some mind-melting moments, etc. We also have a track on the X! Records comp "Shifting Decay" which is a Detroit comp with lots of great bands and that should be out very soon.
Yeah, it should be nice to get out of the D for a minute. Not that I'm fed up with Detroit, it's just nice to get some fresh air. Personally, I'm just looking forward to hitting the road, sun shining down, with my friends and cranking up some heavy Chilean psych, maybe some Rodriguez, some Tronics, RFD "Lead Me Home", the Lightning Records comp cd, whatever new music Heath and Damon and Larry have on hand, listening to Z spin some of his famous yarns, hitting up my favorite record stores (shout out to John at Rockit Scientist), eating some bar bq etc. Hell, maybe I'll even drink a beer or two. For more details on the tour stuff (venue, etc...) just keep an eye on the myspace page. Thanks for sticking with us through the lean times, no apologies for the pace of things though cuz that's just life. Anyway, forwards and upwards, Kevin
PS... if you click on the title of the book Out of the Night it'll send you to Amazondotcom, so don't click on it, and certainly don't fucking buy it from Amzon. Get in touch with the publisher AK Press or visit your local independent bookseller.
