50,000 plays. Hmmm...

I remember the feeling when I joined MySpace on Aug. 7, 2007 and uploaded my first track... I'd been producing TV soundtracks for years, so I was no stranger to putting my stuff out there on the airwaves, but this was different... This time it was me going out there, with the soundtrack to my very own personal (internal) film...

I remember thinking twice before hitting the upload button... having executed several hundred productions, I wasn't worried about the standard of my work... no, my apprehension was caused by something else entirely:

What if nobody cared?

Well... 1 new album, 4 continents, 10,000 listeners and 50,000 Myspace plays later, it would seem somebody does care... And yes, I know - a pattern is emerging... just about every time I blog or post a bulletin, I'm overwhelmed by one thing or another. Excuse me, but my folks raised me to be thankful for the blessings I've received and am about to receive... So I am.

50,000 plays? Sure, it's only MySpace... but when we say that, we're talking about all of the unreal (and surreal) aspects of this virtual place. What is very real, and quite tangible, are the Myspacers who have purchased my music, buy tickets to gigs and bring their friends, those who have become friends in the real world, the great musicians and music biz professionals I encounter here who enter working situations with me, venue managers who discover my page then make a phone call to book me, radio stations that playlist my music, etc., etc. etc.

So pardon me for being grateful because a significant number of people return to my profile page on a semi-regular basis for a dosage of 'Skin To Skin'... and sure, there's a long way to the 100,000 or 1,000,000 plays that some of my worthy associates have racked up... My humble point is, I remember only having 1 play, and that was from me checking the browser to make sure my music was up there and working... During the course of the subsequent 49,999 plays, quite a few fantastic things have happened in my music life. Gratitude.
