Society's Plague: "They're Doing Something Right"

(headline / article removed)

When and why was Society’s Plague formed? Had all of the members known each other already?

I had a band named "society's plague" ever since I was in 9th grade, but I wouldnt concider the current society's plague to have started until 2005.
Me, our lead singer Matt, and then bassist Seth had been playing some songs in my garage for a few months, and we asked a friend of mine and Matt's named roger
to also play guitar for us. I concider this the forming of the "real" Society's Plague.
We went through a few lineup changes over the past few years but Me, Matt and Roger have always been in the band.
We added Kate, who was a friend of Matt's to keyboards after maybe our 7th or 8th show.
Matt met Mike at his day job shortly after we parted ways with Seth, so we added him as our bassist.
After 4 other drummers, we were finally able to grab JD for drums.
Roger and Matt had both known him for a long time, but he was always in another band so he was never able to play drums for us.
Hopefully in the years to come we will not have to make any other lineup changes.

How would you describe Society’s Plague to someone completely oblivious to their music?

If they are familiar with metal, I like to call us Epic Melodic Metalcore.
To someone who is not I would say we are a very melodic metal band with lots of harmonies, keyboards and a mixture of clean and harsh vocals.

Your band has a large internet presence. How much work do you put into promoting your band online, and what kind of things do you do to get your name out there?

We put ALOT of work into promoting ourselves, especially online.
Me and Matt both spend hours each day maintaining the Society's Plague Myspace, Facebook and Last.fm, approving comments, answering people's questions, giving advice, etc.
We also buy some targeting online advertising that has been working our extremely well for us,
not to mention we try to get all of our current fans to spread our name by telling all of their friends.

On September 30, you’ll be performing a show that includes big names like In Flames, Between the Buried and Me, and 3 Inches of Blood. You also played a show during the Music as a Weapon Tour alongside Disturbed and Lacuna Coil. How do you guys land such great gigs?

Because we work our asses off to get our name out and impress the people booking the shows, haha. Having good recordings up and a professional looking myspace helps too.
We spend a lot of time doing networking at every show we play so we can get as many contacts in the industry as we can.

Do you ever find yourselves nervous before big shows?

We used to find ourselves nervous before most shows early in our career, but now we seem to just find ourselves anxious and excited before shows.
Sometimes to the point where you can see JD jumping up and down and hitting things with his sticks before our set, haha.

What can fans expect from Society’s Plague in the future, especially after you raised the bar so high with “The Mercy Untold”?

After The Mercy Untold we started working with a new producer and a new studio.
This guy is fantastic and has been producing big names such as Chimaira, It Dies Today, Walls of Jericho and more.
We already recorded one song with him, The Few And The Fallen, which you can hear on our Myspace/Facebook.
If all goes well we are hoping to have our full length album recorded there and released sometime in mid-late 2010.
It will blow everyone's mind and sound very distinctly Society's Plague.
