Current mood:  aggravated
I'm in my living room, it's 10 PM and I'm wondering...how does one measure worth?

I ask this question, because we artists (painters, authors, music-makers, dancers etc) are often confronted with the dilemma of living off our talent, but having to under price our work.

We sometimes have to compromise in order to eat and are willing to accept even the most ridiculous of offers!

But, even if a recession is in motion all around the globe, that doesn't mean that interested parties can offer "crumbs" to artists and expect them to be at 100%. It's often demoralizing to give your all and then to be paid like a summer intern at an ice cream shop!

I think there's a big problem in the world today when a one-hit-wonder, big boobed bimbo (no offense to anyone) makes a chart topping house song and fills her pockets with millions, while a hard-working, talented (jazz, rock, soul, folk, etc) singer or band can't even rub two dimes together! Does this mean the bimbo is worth more? In who's eyes? How is the talented singer or group supposed to feel after that?

That sets things in motion for clubs, festivals, record labels, agents, and other industry folks to pay the talented, but less "globally commercial" acts next to nothing...and to reward the crap song makers Gucci bags and fat checks.

Just a thought...I'm going to still keep keeping on, as they say.

I totally agree, there seems to be a price on everything except for a musicians work. As musicians we are always expected to work for free or for very little. There is no respect in this world, and what people fail to understand is that music is our unborn baby, created and nurtured by our minds then born through our fingers and hands, or sung from our mouths. Unfortunatly, commercial music is a load of shit, and probably the easiest music to produce and replicate as it's whole perpose (usually) is to sound like somebody else's song.

In the meantime, us real musicians can enjoy what we do, have musical freedom to produce what we want without some A&R dickhead telling us that "The snare should be louder" when they clearly know fuck all about anything!... Keep it to yourself, nuture your craft and keep doing what you do best, and keep it independant. That way, you can keep your self respect, and keep what you do pure...

Sis...

They don't have enough money in the world to pay for what you've got. The big boobed bimbo has a shelf life of 4.3 seconds and the money she generates eventually evaporates in twice the time.

The art made by (jazz, rock, soul, folk) artists lives on for many, many years picking up real fans over many generations.

So it's value actually increases with time.

If there was no 'crystal' this world would be such a dimmer place...but thankfully you're always here to keep our paths lit.

Keep the faith...your time is nigh...and I just hope when you're rolling in dough...you'll remember us little people...hee,hee.

Peace.Love.Light.
