Dear Mr Obama For the past couple of weeks, Ive beeN in a rut. I've sat in front of my computer, in front of my TV, and on many forums online, reading/listening/watching, Americas current events. After days of endless thinking, I've came to think. 23 years of my life ive been proud and fortunate to be an American in the great, U.S.A. But, for the first time, i am sad to say, i am embarrassed, and disgusted to say i am an American in this day of age.
For what, you may ask. For the simple fact that after everything our soldiers, our family, our friends, our civil rights leaders, our former presidents, to whom have put their life, their name, and everything they have, on the line to be, Free, Equal, with liberty and justice for all... We have let them down. We have yet to get past the color of ones skin. The ways of our ancestors language, or just the beliefs of our culture.
In recent current events, some African American students, had a fight with a Caucasian student, in the back of a school bus. Besides asking what happen on the bus, just because the color of the suspects skin, and the victims skin. It became a race factor. Ever since you have took the role as our President, everything has just been a race issue. I am scared for our country, and i am scared for our generations after us who dont know what we have already put ourselves through in the past centuries. We over look how fortunate we are to even be able to set a history marker to have our first black President. We have freedom of speech, freedom to learn, and be educated. Health care, and other opportunities that other countries sacrifice and continuously hide from there country leaders, just so they do not break any laws. Yet, we have not got past the simple fact that we are born together, the same way, by the same person.
The problem is we have to separate everything in a category, instead of just letting life be life, with a freedom of choice. Let me explain. We have Democratic and Republicans, Blacks and Whites, Red or Blue, Boy or Girl. We never just have us. Without the us, in U.S.A we are just America. We Are not United. We are yet again segregated. I know everyone puts the blame on you, as if our worlds problems are just yours. We are always quick to point a finger when there's no one willing to stand up for something. You are not god (or whatever religion those reading believe in is there almighty.) You are human, you are man (non gender.) you are a citizen. And, i think we as Americans in time of desperate need have forgot. WE as one have forgot to be able to fight any war, we must burn any war between ourselves, before we can fight a war with anyone else.
For many years people have tried to lead, but no one wants to be the follower. A wise man once said, "Everyone can't be chiefs, this tribe needs Indians as well." I know your intentions are in the best for us Americans, and i know you are trying to be the best President you can be. Others have hid inside their White House, yet you impress us all by being front line to the public, meeting, greeting, and insuring your actions is for our best interest. People say, "Obama is trying to be to Hollywood, by always being out in the public, in front of the cameras." They, refer you as a "Celebrity" instead of a President. I beg to differ. Seems like everyone is more worried about John & Kate's divorce, or Celebrity marriage, instead of how sad we look, in our constant acts of racism, and segregation.
So what I, better yet, WE are TRYING to say is, Please Mr. President. Don't let us down as followers, better yet, don't let us down as Americans. We believe in you, and we believe in your beliefs as an American for us Americans!
Thank you for your time, and thank you for directing CHANGE to the great country of the United States of America.
A WORRIED Fellow American,
Eric Sattler
