Flicking through My Space bands one morning I came across an American band called Starlit. In face they 're more than a band. They're also very arty and use imagery and words to get their message across. Listening to them was a breath of fresh air and even cooler that there are bands out there that still write meaningful stuff and mean it! Here's what Simara Rose has to say on behalf of Starlit.

Street Voice: What artists inspired you to start writing the kind of lyrics/music that you play?

There is a great deal of humans who have inspired me however the majority of my inspiration comes from:

Street Voice: To anyone who's never heard your music before how would you describe it?

A wall of sensuality and thunder, futuristic vintage with flavors of world and symphony..dangerous, ethereal and haunting Empowering, inspiring and hypnotic.Warrior music to devour your lover too!

Street Voice: Have you any releases available and if so where can people pick them up from?

Our first CD "She Was A Spicy She Wolf" is currently sold out we are now working on our 2nd CD, perhaps we will one day soon re-release "She Was A Spicy She Wolf" as well.

Street Voice: How did you get involved with social aware issues such as Animal Rights, Gay Rights etc?

I always had these beliefs even before I knew they has titles and were issues. Growing up I never felt okay eating flesh and discrimination as well as bullying or worse to a human because of their sexual preference or to a non human has never been okay with me.

Street Voice: There's many in the alternative music scene who couldn't care less about such issues so any messages for them?

We all, myself included get so wrapped up in our personal lives that few of us realize that at every moment of every day a non human somewhere is being tested on, neglected, abused, tortured and murdered. I have studied and witnessed many unnecessary tragedies in the world but no unnecessary tragedy is more accepted by society, more practiced or been going on longer than what happens to non humans. The human species is the most hateful and destructive and warped of any species. The worst part of all is also the best part that all the horrible realities we create are indeed unnecessary. So we can turn around almost all of our destructive behavior. It is up to the individual to do so. Every thing we do or do not do counts. From what you buy to eat and wear to how you treat people in your environment to what you talk about. Every action is an opportunity to do something positive and inspiring. The more people that ignore this, the more mistakes we as a society have made over and over since the dawn of time will be repeated.

If you think of each person as a plant , what do you feed this plant, how do you nurture it and with what? If you buy products that are from non humans who have lead lives of horror and torture you are contributing to that, making a demand for that and giving your okay, if you treat people like crap, bully them, act snobbish and superior than you are spreading misery including to yourself, if your job or passion adds more mindless fluff or misery to the world than you are contributing to and perpetuating a loathsome and fear filled step-ford wife society.

WE all have choices at every moment in any situation.

Street Voice: Like me you're vegan - So does it piss you off at times when you're invited out for dinner and the best a host can russle up is bag of peanuts?

Everyone who invites me anywhere knows my husband and I are Vegan and so we do not run into the problem. All holiday feasts and special occasions are spent with family and we with the help of my brother cook gourmet Vegan spreads or we go to one of our favorite Vegan restaurants.

Street Voice: I also noticed you're big fan of banana splits so we going to share an ultra massive oneif we ever meet?

I have a HUGE sweet tooth...and with Vegan desserts there is a billion treats just waiting to be eaten.I only indulge once in a blue moon but I'll arrange a private meeting for you with the biggest vegan banana split you ever met if you fancy....you may have to do a breakdance move for it though..and it has to be a good move one that includes a back flip.

Street Voice: Do you ever see an end to ignorant issues such as racism, sexism and homophobia?

There has to be because it is all so sick.Truly unhealthy and warped. and anything is possible.

Street Voice: Vivisectors, Nazis and other scum moan when they get back what they dish out so why is these ignorant fuckers carry on with what they do?

They are so delusional. No one is perfect, we have all made gruesome mistakes but some people cross a line and I honestly believe there is no going back ..there is no difference to me between them and serial killers or rapists or child molesters. These people are already far far far gone.Who knows why they are the way they are but as long as they are and even when they are not I will always fight against them and be me.

Street Voice: You're straight to the point when it comes to your articles - I presume like me it's better to get straight to the point?

True.

Street Voice: You have some very arty pictures and you look very hot in them so what's your favourite shot?

The one of my best friend/brother/guitarist Max and the one of my husband Mark also any ones of my cats who are stunning. My favorite pictures are of the ones I see in my head as I am hearing a really amazing piece of music and the story unravels as I begin to write lyrics. I also love the pictures I have of future Starlit shows/videos and most of all the picture of a cruelty free society.

Street Voice: How long have you been modelling for photos?

Hahaha I am not a model but I do feel modeling can be an art form..there are some very creative models, fashion designers and photographers out there. Anything can be art it just depends on what a person or people put into it Certain clothes are like wearable poetry to me...a color can change your mood, a photograph can take you some where else. I love the art in all that.

Street Voice: Apart from the music, the writing and putting over an important message what kind of things do you get up to for fun?

I love art deco architecture, I love vintage circa 20's, 30's 40's and early 50's clothes and films..I love sci fi, I love a good ghost story , I am intrigued by UFO facts, I love ancient cultures, I admire surfing , I like mountain climbing and I would love to white water raft but I would settle for a water slide park...I loooooooove to laugh and make others laugh..but most of all I love music, my husband, my brother, and non humans.

Street Voice: What plans have you for the rest of 2009?

Creating creating creating and creating so more!

Street Voice: Anything you'd like to add?

Have a swellagant day and PERSAFUCKINGVERE!

Thanks to Simara for doing a cool interview and for getting it back so quick. Hopefully this will inspire you to check out Starlit. Not only that but it may also encourage you to give up meat and other bi-products of death. Simara Rose and Starlit really do need to be checked out as what they''re doing is doing something very cool. Good luck to them.
