Hi S.Y.L.K Fans!
This may be a tad belated, but Happy New Year!!
As the sun set on a fabulous 2007 we found ourselves in our Hummer Limo after the Purple Sneakers NYE Party, chilling out with a flute of Moet and reflecting on a totes amazing year*!! We’ve come a long way since our modest beginnings in early ’07, when 3 bedazzled honeys and their motely crew of two, Kon Ding decided to start a little rap group called S.Y.L.K. Over the course of the year we played more and more exciting shows, (Parklife, Field Day, OysterVision Launch) and our outfits became more and more outlandish!! Nowadays it is no big deal to see us strutting down the street fully decked out in bedazzled lycra jumpsuits with sequined bum bags (aka ’fannypacks’ if you are from the U.S. of A), gigantor gold pendants strewn about our necks, and matching miniature poodles.
We have struck up an exciting and at times, saucy relationship with local designers Spunky Bruiser, who are right there waiting, as Richard Marx would say, with a pair of hologram tights here or a gold unitard there to satisfy our every whim.
We recently played our first show of 2008, at the most stylin’ of syk parties, in the Wham! Tent at Playground Weekender! It was a total thrill to be back on stage, where we debuted a new song, and some enticing tid bitz including a cardboard saxaphone solo by Neenbomb and an off-the-chain new Kon Ding Rap - Baby Got Beard. (Consequently, fans everywhere have joined cardboard Kenny-G coverbands, and there has been a mysterious increase in the numbers of bushy beards spotted out on the town. Beard combs anyone?)
A big S.Y.L.K kiss goes out to everyone in the Wham! crew, especially Bianca (aka Cupesie Cupcake Bowsie Pony) who put on such a great show!
2008 promises to be HUGE for S.Y.L.K!!!! Get ready to see us bigger, and better than ever before! More props! More eyeshadow! More bling! More beards!!!
We are very excited to announce that Kon Ding will be supporting the legendary Glass Candy at their Sydney show on March 28 at Oxford Arts Factory!!! If you like bearded men playing disco then BE THERE!!!
Keep your diaries free because S.Y.L.K will be playing again very, very soon. Sources close to the band say there also may just be a very special Syk Party in the works, so dust off your corsages and dry clean your bowties...that’s all we will say for now!
