Who Gives Kudos:

May 3, 2009 - Sunday

Current mood:  contemplative

I've recently released an  E.P.. Titled "Jimi Cravity E.P.", and I think it would be fitting if I gave a little background of the songs to you. "Charlie" is a loop-ballad. I was in the studio one night with my friend and extraordinary producer, Reign, and another friend writer/videographer, Jayson Kertis.I was musing on this idea of Alex de Tocqueville(who is an incredible philosopher, and american pop culture icon in my book) who stated that when raphael painted he wanted to be better than nature. This was profoundly epiphanic to me, and I adopted raphael's view. In my own art, metapohorically, I want to be better than nature, but that may be a little pretentious, lol. In the studio I was thinking about rare things, or things that you will never see, or things that are better than nature, and I thought about a black and white rainbow and that was the backdrop, for me writing charlie. And I wanted to explore what black and white rainbows would look like in the life of a disillusioned young girl, from the perspective of her friend. She was just lost that's all, he would tell you."High School Sweethearts" was written as a result of actually seeing schoolmates who were actually high school sweethearts and are now happily married and have two gifts and expecting a new gift from the Eternal Spirit on Christmas Eve. Matt and Dana Ruplin are the high school sweethearts. There or Their affection was infectious, on our high school campus, and it became my muse. "Branded" was a break-up song. I was extremely pissed and had just made it through the dark night of soul. I was trying to talk to my ex and she was being generously curt. I hung up and starting strumming Bsus2 and it just came out, it was all emotion. Reign and I produced it months later. In her Shoes, is a simple story, with a simple question. Have you ever walked in the shoes of an orphan? the shoes of a misfortune? the shoes of a widow? Because rachel has all her life and that's why she cries, "Don't leave me". "Come Back To Your First Love" is a song I wrote to myself. I was getting away from music more than I wanted to and so I wrote a song to help keep me on track musically and spiritually. I read this story where one man said to alot of people, you've done great things (paraprased) but I only hold this one thing against you, you have left your first love. When I heard the story I knew that I was in the crowd. there you have it the muse behind the music. Even our bodies have rhythm, everyday, all the time. We are music, breathing and beating, musing and thinking. May the groove be with you.
