so i will start by saying thank you to my good friend Robert G. at Custom Tattoos From The Soul.... custom tattoo had the best stage @ sxsw '09...  and to clarify, they are not officially with sxsw; but when you rent a parking lot on 6th st. you really dont have to be a part of the fucking thing...  to clarify to some what sxsw is.... sxsw stands for "south by south west" which is the largest musical conference/festival around...  no one can compare with it, it literally takes over austin tx for a week once a year in march, if you love music, its def worth the trip to experience the overwelming force that is sxsw....

so now i will explain my love/hate relationship with sxsw....  i absolutely hate when corporate whores ruin something that is really special and unique for the sake of the all mighty dollar.... when sxsw first started, it was all about austin music, being on showcase for the rest of the world to see, which became really fucking popular because austin tx has alot of bad ass talent to showcase, but when it became popular the local bands for the most part got shoved to the side,  and they now charge bands money when they submit music to get booked by sxsw... which goes up every year, i believe that it is up over a hundred bucks now to submit music.... and you may play at 10 AM no where near the downtown festival area, which means no one is going to see your band play, which means it was a waste to drive all the way across the country to play a show for maybe 6 people... not to mention the different levels of ticket pricing, and how u might not get to see a show that you waited in line for 4 hours to see because someone paid alot more money than you did and gets to walk right in...  its a really fucked situation.... so because of this i have avoided sxsw like the fucking plague for the last 9 years...  but this year i decided to take the whole fucking thing  in....  so here is my review of sxsw '09.... and i will start by taking a quote from martin akins, you can't plan what you do at sxsw, you just have to be open for the experience....

Day 1 (wed)....  we plan to try to catch Amanda Palmer's 1st showcase we missed it.... later we catch great video footage of amanda palmer in a pillow fight on 6th st. (i think im going to use some of it for a video... ) when i reminded her of who i was and where she met me before she strangely started rubbing my arm....  i also got to meet those cool ass bitches in Vermillion Lies, i fucking love that "bonnie and clyde" song so that was extra cool....  and spent the rest of the day bouncing around just soaking in all the cool ass music..... and a few patron shots

Day 2 (thurs)....   we plan to catch Amanda Palmer again, to no avail....   do you see the trend????  i think the only thing that i planned to see and actually got to see is One Eyed Doll,(kim is a bad ass bitch and she can really fucking work a crowd)  a local austin band not booked by sxsw but another festival, Texas Rock Fest that has like 10 stages around downtown and really supports local music coinciding at the same time as sxsw.... so after we go check out one eyed doll we bum around and eventually end up at the Tattoo shop where i get my work done  (its on 6th st.) and start talking to Robert (the guy who does my tight ass tatts) and he is telling me about the bands he has playing in the parking lot outside where about 3 hundred or so people are walking by every min. (literally thousands of people come out for this shit) and im like WTF!!! why dont you have me playing out here??? so he gives me a spot at 9pm friday night, no questions ask, to play as long as i want.... thats a really cool fucking friend!!!!  now mind you even though i just released a new disk there was no plans to play any shows to support it.... i am currently recording another full length cd for release this summer and thats when i will start the live thing up again... i have no band to back me up at current time, but i could not turn down the opportunity so it was improv time on 6th st. friday night bitches......

Day 3 (fri)  i would like to also thank my good friend Jack Blood... a real thought criminal!!!!  friday morning i get up email Jack and ask him if he would be interested in coming out to the show and speaking to the good folks attending sxsw... to shed some light on the current state of the Union we live in known as the good ol USA, and to report the REAL FUCKING NEWS that you don't get on your corporate media outlets....  i figure its a great way to show my middle finger to corporate sxsw, and rightfully gain my black mark against my name... further burning all bridges and severing all ties of comunication... you see if you play a show that is not offical sxsw then you get banned from ever playing a sxsw show again, but i really like taking things to the next level so i invite Jack Blood host of deadline live radio talk show currently on internet radio WFURadio which reports the REAL news, you can check out his free archives here, @  http://www.wfuradio.com  this guy tells it like he sees it and he pulls no punches...  hes the real fucking deal....   so Jack calls me back and asks whats up and i explain to him the deal and how he gets a platform and a 300 watt PA to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth for as long as he wishes to speak...  we agree it was not an opportunity to pass up so on short notice he jumps on board and i figure i will let him talk for a while and then play some old songs and show off some new songs from "13 Months"....  all in all it wasnt a bad show considering i had no practice at all, sometime you just have to rise to the occasion and go for broke....  the rest of sxsw was a blur, i am so fucking tired, i loved it but im glad its over.....
