I kind of agree, to a degree.  I don't think ANYONE should get special treatment based on race, religion, etc.  I think I understand how the system came about, because there were prolly incidents where someone (of a minority) was discriminated against, and their test scores were disregarded, because they were a minority.  If someone scores higher on a test, then that should be the deciding factor, period.   But that will never be the way the world works, because that is not the way the system is or ever will be set up.  Everyone that I know, including people of different races, tends to be a bit racist in one way or another, I think most people in general tend to hold themselves superior in one way or another to others.  I am trying to think of the term that I personally feel/think, its not racism, its prejudice, which I am guilty of pretty much every day, I think that my kids are better than yours, my husband is better than yours (not you personally, Justin!) but you know what I mean.  I was raised to believe that no one is better than anyone else based on race or religion or whatever, (thanks, daddy!) my last stepmother was Italian, and this one is Asian, my dad has a "gay black son" etc, but I think we are all guilty of a bit of prejudice, based on what we have gone through and seen in our lives.  sometimes stereotypes play themselves out, there is a basis in reality to every stereotype, can you tell me you could get on a plane with some men of Arabic descent and not feel a bit...nervous?  yep its racial profiling, but there is a reason for it.  The men of 9/11 were all of Arabic descent, right?  I'm not saying that its fair, because it isn't.  Crazy people in every nationality, we have our fair share, no doubt, but what I am saying is that there is a bit of prejudice in everyone, to a degree, even the most enlightened person has his share of prejudice.  Anyway, back on topic, I would prefer to have the person with the highest test score possible doing whatever I need to have done, regardless of race, religion, etc.  Period.

I read a couple years ago that the most racist people were Japanese, they feel Americans are lazy and worthless.  Sad since they own so much of America.  And I agree that personal responsibility and accountability and a sense of humor are or should be the first requirement for all of humanity, but I am also jaded enough to believe that that is just not going to happen any time in the near future.

It's not racist, it's one of the reasons this country is going to shit. The best qualified people for a certain job should get that job. It should have nothing to do with race so I don't want to hera any racist bullshit either. It's just that simple, the people who actually work hard to educate themselves and put themselves in the best qualified spot for a job should get it. Not just some random assbag because there is a minority quotient to fill. That shouldn't even exist. If anyone of any color or race wants a position they should go to god damn school and get as qualified as the people who are already there but denied because there has to be so many people of different backgrounds. It's bullshit to the highest degree. But of course thougths like this get you called racist in most places by mostly ignorant people. Oh well, I'm for the most qualified people getting the positions they deserve. If that makes me racist then so be it.

Kudos. The finding in favor of the race quota was by Judge Sotomayor, the present nominee to replace Justice Souter on the Supreme Court. She'll probably sail through the Senate confirmation hearing because the mostly white Senators will fear appearing racist, or rather they'll fear being called racist, even when everyone knows better, and the public plays the game because Simon says clap your hands.

The real problem is that some minorities average lower test scores so they can't fill a proportionate number of posts in brainpower occupations without bias in their favor, not that whites have a proportionate number of those positions. Whites and Asians have more than their proportion of those positions, and it's still assumed by some that this is the result of racial bias, as they turn a blind eye to reality. Whether the lower average of test scores is traceable to genetics or to bad cultural practice in these lagging minority communities, I don't know. It's my opinion that genetics are extremely plastic, so minorities would do themselves a favor by ceasing the whining and just getting on with it.

I agree wholeheartedly. Im a minority, but dammit, I think my people and everyone else needs to get off their goddamned high horse and realize that just because their skin isnt white, that they deserve some piece of the pie they arent entitled to. Im so sick of affirmitive action that I could puke. I also think its hilarious that only white people seem capable of being racist. I think that the people who are most qualified are entitled to the job, not some damn minority because we're afraid of hurting their poor little feelings and winding up with a lawsuit. I agree this is why America is going to shit. The government wants to placate everyone who is buttsore over some dumbass thing instead of standing up and saying "Get the fuck over yourself." America is just a doormat anymore. Come on in and wipe your shitty feet all over us because we dont have the balls to stand up for some sense of values and common sense.

To the minorites...learn fucking English if you dont know how to speak it, become a citizen if youre not, quit bitching because you think whitey is taking advantage of you, and instead of becoming a statistic because youre too goddamned lazy to do anything about it, get off your ass, get an education and make something of yourself or get the hell out of the USA and take your worthless ass back to wherever the hell it is you came from...we dont need you here.

It is sad to say, I see it around here all the time, the will hire lots of minorities who do not speak english at all and people who sit around on their ass not doing anything because they are miniorities. I have actually been denied a job because i was not minority enough, with my extensive schooling and social background was way to high for their standards. Fuck this world and how it works, this is why they have such a problem with job turn overs because the people who fight to get to where they should be don't get the positions but the people who are just mediocore at what they do and never put 100% into  get it well because they are minorities but this goes with everyone
