To whom it may concern: (This means you Obama)

With all due respect, what the hell are you thinking?

I just wanna know the truth. You got Rick doing this thing as a ploy to bring folks together for real, or you appeasing someone?

Holla.

Did you forget that it was queers and young people who love queers who elected you as our president. Man, for the first time in our lives, some of us voted because we felt like we had nothing to lose, but everything to gain with your butt in office.

All of us leftist, communist-raised folk also shut up and listened to the excitement build from our siblings who supported you, we bucked up and thought, "Hey, if I'm gonna give our government one last shot, this is it".

Now listen, I don't really care about gay marriage being that I've been completely single for over 2 years (not because I'm ugly…just saying). But a lot of my folks are in love or are falling in love or have a love who is ill or have a love who is poor and ill – that's why I, a gay, am for gay marriage. I looked beyond my own needs and into the needs of the masses. I should be president (well, that's what people say).

Anyway, I just hope to GOD or the universe or the powers that be (and not the ones in secret societies who gather in the name of making things worse for everyone on the planet – the ones who are higher than that) that you aren't what some socialists have warned us about and you are actually playing a game for our sake.

Please Obama, you wanna have Rick Warren talk at your inauguration? Fine. Just address why. You wanna win the hearts of the republicans and conservatives who want to divorce all the marriages of LGBTQIQTSSGL folks? Fine, just hurry this shit up and start doing your job… for the ones who voted for you and the ones who didn't. Show us both that you are the man this earth has been waiting for. Because, as I'm sure you know, you are president of the world now.
I just hope that my conspiracy theories won't be proven true as you, Mr. Hawaii, Mr. Kenya, Mr. Indonesia, Mr. America, Mr. President of the World gain the trust of this planet only to be a puppet for the old white guys who think they have power.

If you are not the human you said you were, if you lied - you would be cursed by everyone, including Martin Luther King Jr. including Malcolm X, including Gandhi, including Mother Teresa, including the Dalai Lama, including leaders who were good or bad, dead or alive because you know why?
You done fucked up. Plain n Simple.

So I urge you to stay away from pissing queers off. Look, if you choose not to let go of Rick because you got something up your sleeve, fine. Pero-
Imagine what trust you would gain by giving the boot to Rick Warren. If you piss off queers, you'd be dealing with a lot of karma from all the spirits, gods and orishas who look after our queer asses. Look at it from the bright side - Imagine that the young people and the queers are the ones who have it shit bad, we'd be the ones who would fight till the end (I mean, hello, we have been) so the outcome would only work in your favor if you let go of Warren because the queers would probably do all your grunt work for you from then on out.

I mean, hey, I know it's hard, with the world watching and all. Just say you double booked. Or tell the truth. I hope it sounds more like "I did the wrong thing and I'm sorry it looked so bad to you, but I did it for reasons I will explain later when the heat is off of me" and not "I'm president now, I am owned".

Ummm, really? All that?

How quickly we abandon all the rhetoric we used to promote our candidate when he doesn't do what we want.

Piss off the queers and you'll be cursed by MLK? When did gay people become the chosen people and any act (seemingly) against us warrants the wrath of revered ancestors? Replace queer with any other demographic of people - "white" "conservative" or "vertically challenged" and read this entry again and see if it doesn't send shivers down your spine.

This may come as a newsflash for many but the only difference between the Mormon church and most any other church is simply that the Mormon church had the money available. The Catholic Church kicked in a substantial amount of money as well yet somehow they've been let off the hook relative to Yes on 8. If Faithful Central had the millions available to defeat Prop. 8, they would have gladly written a check. In saying that Rick Warren should not be present at the inauguration because of /the Mormon church's views against gay marriage is almost to say that no religious figure should be at the inauguration because an aversion to gay marriage is a common trait among most of them.

Also, Mr. Obama is the president of ALL people - not some people. Not just queer people or people of color.
Mormons are the third (some report 4th) largest religous group in the country and they are currently being scapegoated - are we suggesting our president, a man we loved for his ability to bring together all people for one common goal, are we now suggesting he overlook a subset of the nation because the higher ups of that subset wrote a check?

Let's be careful not to jump to dramatic conclusions. Perhaps Mr. Obama is saying to the Mormon people that he is their president too and he recognizes them even when as a whole they are seen as paraiah to so many others. Let's try to give him the benefit of the doubt in a positive way instead of accusing him of being a two-faced politician on the precipice of receiving the wrath of the greatest leaders of our time (an unfair and uncessary comment I must say) because the great, wise gay people are displeased.

Never did I even have rhetoric to begin with... just hope and faith and a yes we can. Nor does this mean that I lose love for the president I voted for. Just means that we must always keep our eyes open. And, as I have joked back to folks who have responded - what, you didn't know that queers were the only ones who put Obama in office? :) To bring in spirits, gods, orishas is to remember that we are not governed by this government at all, but by something greater - a power that cannot be fathomed unless we look internally for longer periods of time with good intent. With my writings, as with my letters, I think that the lines in between the written are the most important - where we as humans don't or can't understand, we SHOULD question - again, not to dismiss any rhetoric from 2 weeks ago - just to remember that we as citizens have always had hope, we revived this hope with the president elect, and we stand by this decision hoping we are not wrong.

I read this posting today by D'lo and I felt the back handed slap and the joking. Not sure why. It's not a joke the state of affairs that we are in right now. This posting reminds me of why cross dressers, transgender folks, Blacks, Asian, Mexicans, Poor White folks and Arabs fight in the ghetto by the hood bodega store because we don't understand each other and why we are all in the same boat in the same place. I have been in Fez, North Africa and Paris for the pass month producing a rap album and the arabs and africans are in the same hood praying to one god. This one Muslim man came to me and said we all prayed for Obama to win here in FEZ and I cried. I walked through customs with my head up because the officer put up his right fist to the air and said I wish I could of voted for Obama. THIS IS IN PARIS for god sake!!! This is the change the world needs after bush got hit upside the head with a boot. GET THE FUCK OUT MY HOUSE BITCH/BUSH!! Now that is something to talk about.

" we SHOULD question - again, not to dismiss any rhetoric from 2 weeks ago - just to remember that we as citizens have always had hope, we revived this hope with the president elect, and we stand by this decision hoping we are not wrong.

Wrong! About what, when this man has not even taken office yet! Can we see that his choice might have been to build a needed bridge. My mom said keep your friends close and your foes closer. Maybe we where wrong about giving bush 750 billion dollars to bail his friends out of this war. Let's talk about that and not kill the image of a family. A family, not just a man has worked there whole life to see this change happened and it did with all the hope that we brought to it and now every pot shot that can be said at them is being done.. Image assassination is the word for today.

I am and have been working for life change through my art and it does not stop with the pot shots calls. First we must have an open gay president to run for office, a woman that we trust has to run for office and a artist that overstands the movement of the world has to run for office before we can ask for someone to look out for us. GET THAT PERSON TO RUN then we can talk shit.. If we did not vote for this man then who? NO VOTE! Who could step to the plate to deal with this devil? I can't be a person of color and check the box that said white or straight on the censor-!! The world is behind this family and I am too because it reflects the change that I want to see happen in my life when I walk into my next job interview. Please no more image assassination.
GIVE THIS BLACK FAMILY A CHANCE TO SHINE! YES I AM BLACK, GAY AND PROUD! I SAID IT!

NO MORE KILLINGS! What did bush do for the pass eight years THINK ABOUT THAT! Where are the writings about that?

To the Obama family take your rightful place in the WHITE HOUSE!!

D'Lo, I hear your concern for Obama's choice to involve Warren in the inaguaration ceremony. As a gay womon of color, my feeling is this...

What if his choice is about balance and bridge building? He is, in fact, the president elect of a diverse nation. I see that he is also appointing openly gay men and womyn to his cabinet. Actions speak louder than words and all.

Eyes open? Yes, of course. And, I prefer to withhold "judgement" and fearful reactions about a man who is not even in office yet and hold the intention that maybe his choice is a demonstration of how to live side by side, in compassion, even with those who have a different view point than mine. That is how progress is made. . when I can see a conservative as human and visa verse becuase we are "in the same room". It is too soon to lose the hope that I feel at Obama's election.

Peace,
~Tory

Totally heard Tory. I am searching for answers behind the decisions more than demanding a pulling out of Rick Warren. If RW is to pray for the nation, I would hope that he pray for an accepting nation. And I pray for my president to be as transparent in his decisions as possible. As I have commented on FB, I still love me some Obama:)
