Sadly cancer is something that affects everyone these days, even those of us who do not have cancer will be affected by the hardship it brings to a family member, close friend, colleague or someone we know - not to mention the lives it has taken & almost everyone has a heartfelt story to tell about how cancer has affected them or someone close to them.
There is no known cure that can completely 100% eliminate this condition which takes on so many forms & can lay dormant in just about any part of the human body so research in this field is vital - already many lives have been saved by what is currently known but with more funding critical research will eventually develop new techniques/possible cures that could triple the number of future lives saved.
For us as a family this year has been particularly difficult due to Cat's mother (Virginia) becoming seriously ill late last year/early this year.
It took a month after being hospitalized for medical professionals to establish a diagnosis (stomach cancer) then a further month before they could agree on a suitable course of action (three rounds of chemotherapy then a major operation that will take place later this month to remove more than half of her stomach including the remaining tumor, mean while being 100% drip-fed with absolutely no physical consumption of food or water).
We are all doing everything we can as a family to support Cat's mom & dad through this difficult time & even though Virginia still has the operation looming we are all really optimistic for the final outcome.
For many years my wife Cat has been a big supporter of Cancer Research (regularly donating) & this year she has decided to take part in the Race For Life (a charity event that raises funds for Cancer Research).
If anyone would like to show their support & sponsor Cat in this event here is the link to their official Cancer Research/Race For Life event website (Cat will be listed there as Catherine Broster).
Anyone who sponsors Cat, I would like to say bless you & thank you for your support - even though this is the first time I have officially spoke out about this I would like to thank all you MySpace friends who have been so supportive particularly when I sent out earlier bulletins this year explaining family members were ill.

Below: Virginia (Cat's mom) being visited in hospital by Prince Charles (taken earlier this year before the diagnosis was made).

Again, thank you to everyone for all your kind words & especially to everyone helping support this event.
Best Wishes Always
AORPETE

Pete,My prayers are with Virginia(Cat's Mom)I do know about cancer.I lost my daughter-in-law a year ago on Juky 1st.,of colon cancer. It all started with her apendix that the doctor did not take out,he gave her antiobitics and said they were contained and sent her home.It took time before they said she had cancer, she went through chemo about two years and then radation and they had quit the chemo during that time, they should have kept her on the chemo. The cancer was back and in her liver, she then went to a cancer doctor that I know,he thought her cancer was getting better,it wasn't,she was in so much pain she got so she couldn't eat so ended up in the hospital. They checked her and she had to have surgery to remove dead flesh, they could not remove it all.It looked like a shark had took a huge bite from her side half was gone. She never came home.I do donate to the American Cancer Society and we do have a race for cancer here. The sad part of my story is,had they removed her apendix she wouldn't have had cancer.I just wanted to share my story with you Pete.Everyone has cancer cell's in their body.I will pray for Virginia and hope that all will go alright.

My heart breaks every time I hear someone else is through the worst time of their lives.  The father that raised me had stomach cancer like Virginia and they took three quarters of his stomach.  I understand what you and Cat are dealing with.  My prayers will be for Virgina and your Family.   Give Virgina and Cat a Big Hug and Kiss.
If you need anything - I'm here.

My prayers will be for Virginia and your family.  I understand, as I just finished 9 months of treatment myself, which included chemo, radiation and some alternative medicines.  I am doing well.  I consider myself very blessed.  It is an ugly disease, but we can beat it.  I hope Virginia remains positive as difficult as that is I know.   I will continue to keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

Pete my Mom also had stomach cancer, she did have surgery alone and it did save her life. I gave my heart and soul to her, every ounce of energy every ounce of love. Come talk to me when you get a moment. Rob

Cancer is one of the worst disease for human race, maybe absolutely the worst one.
Scientific research might be more supported.

Pete... I hope with all my heart that Cat will feel better, and I give you all my support. I know what it means.. I'm very sorry.

A strong embrace,
Valentina

Pete, My prayers are with you along with all the others, the only thing I can say is keep up hope and stand in faith. My mother was diagnosed 12 years ago with systemic Cancer and given 1 to 2 years to live. Needless to say she is a fighter and her faith has kept her strong. 12 years later and she is still alive and fighting this battle daily. As you said it not only affects the carrier but everyone around them as well. Again we will keep you ALL in our thoughts and prayers.

Take care and God Bless!!

Donation made! I'm absolutely there for you guys if you need anything!!

Struggling with being sick and dealing with all of the chaos that it brings is never ever easy but I honestly believe that taking charge and working toward something positive is the best plan of action. I'm so proud of Cat for getting out there and turning her energy into something that allows her to take some control of the situation.
Please keep me updated on how Cat does in her race and how Virginia is doing!
Love and hugs to you and the entire family!!

9 scott is my favorite driver

Pete,
My friend Tammy and I have walked the Relay For Life Cancer walk for 2 yrs in a row now. She has lost a couple of family members to cancer. She is in a wheel chair, though she was born this way, she acts more like a normal young woman than most. Most people i know act as if they are disabled in the brain. They walk by her or cut in front or her or act like she is not even there. It hurts me so much when people treat her as if she is not even their equal. She is Beautiful and is full of Life and Love.
As for me, my own father is suffering from prostate cancer and i pray that he is still with us next year.
I will keep Cat's  Mom esp in my prayers.  With All My <3 heart <3  Pat the catty_b. Clone times 3.

I hope one day that they have the cure for all types of cancer and that we can forget what it is to suffer with such afflictions. We Need to pray for all of us . We all need to work together helping those who need our help . May God bless us all in the fight to beat Cancer.  Marisa

one can not stress how important it is to get involved in the fight for Cancer , unfortunately it will touch everyone in some way or another. Either by a family member having it or friend or friend of a friend. It can be devastating to families all over the world. please if each one of us could just help in some small way by donating or volunteering their time, it will get us closer to a cure for many of the different types and possibly help someone we might know. If you are one of these people to get involved    Thank you for all you do!!!!!!!   We all should get involved , thats the best gift one can give!
