I went to see "Vantage Point" this weekend, a serviceable political-thriller starring Dennis Quaid and, certified Jiggy Fly man-crush, Matthew Fox.
Those who have seen commercials or trailers for the film most likely understand that we see the same series of events from different vantage points (hence the title of the film).
And yet, every time there was a flashback , the old lady next to me threw up her arms and sighed loudly in exasperation.
Perhaps she didn’t know what movie she would be seeing (like the time I got dragged into James Bond at my friend’s 6th birthday party). The more likely theory, though, is that modern narrative technique has passed her by.
When I’m older, I wonder if I’ll watch Quentin Tarantino movies and complain how they don’t make them like they used to? Will my children call me old-fashioned because I insist on watching two-dimensional movies when everything else is holographic? Will I lose regard for whether my fellow theater patrons are enjoying a movie?
Only time will tell.
