The reality is that if it were not for Jeffrey Mettling I would have never even entered the album into the New Mexico Music Awards.  Deciding to be so bold as to enter the "Best Rock CD" category was my brave. ..:namespace prefix = o />

After being nominated in five categories I decided to make the best of it and brought my mom and daughter to the Awards Event at the Pyramid Marriot in Albuquerque, New Mexico reserving a stage front table in the banquet room.  Unfortunately my wife had to be out of town.  She would have had a blast!  I anticipated winning nothing and giving my daughter a lesson in "it's not just about how you win but it's about how you take your losses" kind of thing.

To make a short story long, Jeff, Andrew and I pulled down "Best Rock-Alternative Musical Production" for the song 'Dance Like a Ghost. '.  I remember how the song unfolded like a rose.  From my guitar to Jeff's recording studio it was easily the most fluid and exciting of the songs we collaborated on.  Written, recorded and mixed in just two weeks.  Right after mastering however a solid blemish turned up smack in the middle of the song.  The song had to be re-mixed (Jeffrey Mettling) and re-mastered (Andrew Click) before I would let the album get released.  Jeff, Andrew & I basically became the personal super heroes of the song "Dance Like a Ghost' and hence the entire album.

Back to the Awards Event, as I was sitting back down at my table mystified because we had won the award for the song, I wasn't listening to the next category announcement but suddenly I heard my name and Jeff's name again along with David Cragin and the other producers that participated on the album!!  I went up on the stage to receive the award not even knowing what we had just won.

"Best Rock CD - 2008"!!   Only when I got back to the table and saw the award did I realize what we had just done... I was in shock!

I'm still in shock... somehow a group of people I don't know or have even met decided that my latest musical project should win the "Best Rock CD" from New Mexico in 2008!  The best word I can come up with right now is Wow!

Thanks to Jeffrey Mettling, Andrew Click, Steven Howell, Simon Widdowson, David Cragin, Julian Lopez and Jon Trujillo who is an unsung hero on the album as well.

Thanks for the support I've received over the years, pre-Racecar and all, from my family, my friends Mark Bauman and Curt Shaak, my actual real live fans (they do exist) and all the musicians over the years who could take my flubbering and blubbering as I attempted to become a decent songwriter... I guess I'm on my way!!

One more thing... Jeff's band Elu performed the night of the event and that was like winning another award... what an awesome night!!!

David,
No Doubt Congrats! Sorry to be out of the loop of your successes. To be sure it does not surprise me.

You are a gifted writer and performer.
