In 1990, Kareem “Biggs” Burke set his targets on becoming a successful businessperson. Determined to transcend his surroundings, Biggs began pursuing business ventures at fourteen with a group of friends known as the “Best Out” crew. The “Best Out” crew, of which childhood friend and future business partner Damon Dash was also a member, promoted and produced parties in Harlem. Through his affiliation with “Best Out”, Biggs obtained vital money management skills. He enhanced those skills with a formidable education at Rice High School. Meanwhile as Biggs excelled in High School, Damon Dash was gaining “hands-on” experience as a manager for up and coming rap phenomenon Sean “Jay-Z” Carter. As major record labels remained apathetic towards Jay-Z’s talent and sales potential, Damon solicited “Biggs” to become a part of a campaign to launch his career in 1993. Intent on silencing their skeptics, and established Jay-Z as the premiere rap artist, the three embarked on a year tour in attempts to develop a fan base and solidify evidence of Jay-Z’s credibility, talent, and appeal. While the performances were successful, the results fell short of their anticipations and inspired them to take matters into their own hands and form Roc-A-Fella Records.
Roc-A-Fella Records has become the most profitable record label in history. From Jay-Z’s 10 multi platinum record releases, signing of major artists, Roc-A-Fella Films, Rocawear, Armadale Vodka, and 40/40 dance club in New York.
Roc-A-Fella Records has become the ideal image for the young entrepenuer in America, who has dreams of becoming a successful businessperson
