A little more about what we do...
Within Productions there are 9 event planning committees. Here's a brief description about all of them and past events.
B.A.G. of Laughs --B.A.G. (Bust a Gut) of Laughs is responsible for providing various styles of humorous..i.e. comedians, hypnotists, magicians, and other entertainers.) Just last year we had Christian Finnegan (www.christianfinnegan.com) from VH1's Best Week Ever. He has also been on The Dave Chappelle show on Comedy Central. We also had Dan Ahdoot (www.danahdoot.com), who was on NBC's show Last Comic Standing.
Big Screen --Big Screen is responsible for offering a wide-selection of films in various areas of cinema. (i.e. foreign films, animations, blockbusters, cult films, et al.) We also have an outdoor movie held on the practice softball field once a semester. Recently shown movies have included Shrek 2, 50 First Dates, and Batman Begins, all shown prior to their DVD/VHS release dates.
Celebrations & Festivals --Celebrations & Festivals is responsible for creating theme celebrations and events emphasizing social and cultural awareness. Past events include the annual trip to the ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Museum of Tolerance, The Frida Kahlo Festival, the Diversity Week, the Poetry Series, and the Dia De Los Muertos celebration.
Center Stage --CenterStage is responsible for presenting a rich selection of artistic expressions through the performing and visual arts. Past artists include the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Ensemble, Trinity Irish Dance Company, Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company, Ensemble Galilei, and Lulu Washington Dance Theater, the Tibetan Monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery, The International Guitar Night, and the Moscow Boys Choir.
The Music Scene --The Music Scene is responsible for creating a musical environment by showcasing a wide selection of artists. Past events have included Hootie and the Blow fish, Tool, Offspring, the Wallflowers, Smokin' Grooves, Isley Brothers & Ohio Players as well as several local and regional bands.
The Point --The Point is responsible for addressing student concerns and creating dialogue through speakers, debates, panel discussions, open forums, and other events. Last year we brought Veronica and Rachel from MTV's Road Rules.
Recreation & Leisure --Recreation & Leisure is responsible for offering opportunities to participate in leisure, social and recreational activities. Past events have included the annual San Francisco Shopping Trip as well as Whitewater River Rafting. We also have gone to Santa Cruz, Magic Mnt., S.F. to see The Lion King on Broadway, even the LACMA to view the King Tut exhibit.
Special Events --Special Events is responsible for creating unique events not already offered by other USU Productions committees. This includes a number of different events, for example, MTV was just on campus holding an open casting call for a new reality series they are putting together and put together the Gamers Ball tournament.
Spirit --Spirit promotes unity and pride in the university by creating lasting campus traditions and events. A central event of this committee is the annual Homecoming Celebration.
