This week I was having trouble deciding who I wanted to do for my artist feature. I have been listening to so much new music it has been hard to pick. However, much of the new music is of up and coming bands from across the country and I don't exactly know too much about them. So I have decided that from now on I will do my artist feature on local DC/VA/MD bands to try and give them some extra exposure. However, my music mix will still be bands from anywhere and everywhere.
1. Klaxons - Isle of Her 2. Joy Division - She's Lost Control 3. The Go! Team - Bottle Rocket 4. Iron & Wine - Boy With a Coin 5. ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead - Let it Dive
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Artist Feature: The Vita Ruins - www.myspace.com/thevitaruins I don't remember how I initially discovered these guys. I guess it doesn't really matter because they are amazing. After stumbling on to their myspace I listened to their four songs about fiver or six times in a row and would have more, but it was lunch time at work. After hearing that they were going to play a show at Black Cat and giving away their free EP I knew I had my plans for friday lock-ed in. Got there early to get some drinks in before the show and a spot right in the center for the set. Oh and after getting the T-Shirt I got some free buttons, so if anyone wants some buttons hit me up...Anyway the guys sounded great up on stage and everyone was really into it. If I'm not mistaken, it was their first Black Cat show after playing some of the smaller venues (ie. Galaxy Hut and the like) and it treated them well. I got to talk to a couple of the guys after the show and they seemed to be really pumped about how it went. I also got some information that they are going to try and record a full length soon that they hope to have out by the end of this year or the very early beginning of next year (so exciting!). Their eerie sound seems to be a mix of Interpol fleshed out a bit electronically and is very unique in a great way. Check them out!
