Big Kitty says "Hola!": Debut CD Launch for Brisbane's minxy feline five-piece on August 11
The long-awaited launch of Big Kitty & the Scaredy Cats' debut CD "Hola!" promises to be a red-letter day in the Big Kitty yearbook. After being hailed as a surprise rookie hit at Greazefest in 2005 and 2006, local heroes at Wintersun 2006 and 2007, the darlings of the Brisbane Blues Festival in 2007, crowd favourites at Brisbane Blues and Jazz headquarters Satchmo's and Maggie Blacks', and general all-round good-time gal and guys, Big Kitty and the lads are proud to announce the launch of their first full-length recording on Saturday August 11th upstairs in the firmament of the Saints Room at St Paul's Tavern.
With a sassy hootin' and hollerin' front woman in Big Kitty – persons of the female persuasion being quite the rarity in this kind of genre, monster slap upright double bass action from Machine Gun Matt, wailin' blues licks from guitar guru Harvey Wallbanger, chicken pickin' and twang from country rockabilly stalwart Rupert (the Jennerator), and mysticism supplied courtesy of blues skins specialist Jules "The Spoils" Victor, this five-piece has spent the previous two years wooing crowds across the south east of Queensland and looks forward to a soiree to remember at the official launch event prior to their Gympie Muster debut in late August.
"Hola!", recorded and mixed with Marty Brown at Broadcaster in West End (Marty is sound genius at the famed Troubadour), features a cross-section of retro styles from rockin' country blues, through jazz, swing, rockabilly, to good ol' dirty rock and roll, including a few originals penned by the band that regard each other and their motley crew as family. The sound is driven by rich lead vocals from the front feline, sweet and low-down full band harmonies, incredible bass work, dueling guitars, and rock solid rhythm. Just try not smiling or tapping those boogie shoes.
The event on August 11 will feature local lads Corn Liquor as support line-up (one more band to be announced soon), as well as other entertainment and surprises in store throughout the evening. Entry will be $15 with a CD (usual price $20!) or $10 without.
