I've just uploaded this to my music player. It's pretty rough as it's taken from the recording of  only the third time I performed it (in second life at The Peace Park on April 11 at 11pm if you must know).

It's taken me a while to finish this as the song was really lacking focus before I really got to work on it yesterday. It was very generic. I only really had the chorus and an idea for the second verse. At the time the chorus was:

That's just the way that it goes
Some things never change.
Take it on the chin and get back in the game.
This world can be cold
And the jibes get old
I've heard it before, it's hard to ignore and I know
That's just the way that it goes.

Now you ave to admit, that's leading to a pretty dark and melancholy song, but I persisted with it without making a lot of progress.

Yesterday (after two lovely freshly ground cappuccinos) I decided that it was too generic and needed some focus. So, I gave it the topic that you now see. The first verse lines that I came up with were lines 3 and 4 in the first one (actually in the opposite order), and I was walking around laughing my head off at them for a good 15 minutes before I got back into it and the rest just flowed. Those lines as they now stand are:

Your guitar's out of tune and the drums are too loud.
Your music's too niche and you won't pull a crowd.

There are two kinds of criticism that yo can be hit with. It's unfortunate that a lot of music criticism is of the negative kind. I firmly believe that way too many potential careers have been cut short due to this. Positive criticism helps an artist grow. Negative shuts them down.

I guess the songwriting lesson out of this one is to make sure that you give a song a specific focus. Generality is hard.

I'll try to multi-track something a little better with it in the next few weeks to put up. In the meantime please enjoy what it sounds like "live".

Alan.

I'm glad you changed the lyrics as you kept working on them....The finished song sounds great! Not too whingy, not too "suck up"-y...LOL.
Good balance of truth and nonchalance (is that how its spelt?
). Dont forget the opening lines to Bruce Hornsby's tune "Thats just the way it is...Some things will never change" hee hee! KEEP WRITING TP! Hugs.
