this reminds me of a friend who had to explain to someone who couldn't believe that she'd struggled to get out of an abusive relationship 'because you're such a strong feisty woman! How is it possible?!', this apparently suprising piece of information: nobody hits you on the first date.

Yeah. On the topic of violence against women, seems like there's always someone who wants it to be way simpler (because simplicity = safety and predictability??) than it is. In Canada I gnash my teeth in the weeks preceding December 6th every year.
