Current mood:  curious
Apparently it has been released on the other side of the pond! I've had two conflicting "reviews" so far; if you have seen it, please tell me what you think! Preferably as a blog comment, so all Guide fans in the Myspace galaxy may know whether it's worth seeing or not! Michiel

It was entertaining...sometimes hilarious...but could have been better. Worth my $6.50 though. It was a fun way to pass a Sunday afternoon...the paranoid robot cracked me up.

Apparently the feelings are mixed; some other friend's reviews:

< Only the best movie EVER!
Current mood: ecstatic

So yes...as everyone probably guessed, I DID go see the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie. And it's amazing. Phenomenal. They changed a lot, but that was what Douglas Adams thrived on...and I think they held true to his spirit VERY well. It's a tribute to a wonderful, amazingly beautiful man and author. There are lots of little things that you have to watch for, like the jeweled crabs and the original Marvin from the miniseries in the queue...I know I've missed lots of things in there. It was cast perfectly, and they did an amazing job with the Book itself.

*sigh* Basically...I have nothing bad to say about this movie. I've waited for -years- for this, and I was very afraid of being disappointed...but I wasn't. :D

I'm gonna be happy for the next month or so. *wibble* >

< Saw Hitchhikers guide last night...was sooooooooooooo disappointed! *weep weep* I hate it when that happens. >

well, i'll be the glass of ice water on this happy party!
I am a big fan of the Hitchhiker Series...first discovered it via the BBC miniseries (which always made me laugh). This movie was, over-all disappointing. I'm having trouble pin-pointing exactly what I didn't like about it. The cast was superb! The graphics awesome, but it never seemed to quite "get there". Most of the funny scenes had been on the previews so they were no surprise. I did totally dig Sam Rockwell's David Lee Roth/Elvis version of Zaphod and Bill Nighy as my favourite, Slartibartfast was as endearing as I'd hoped he be.
I guess my two main problems with this flick were that the characters were never fleshed out enough. If you'd never read the book you would not have been in on the subtle nuances of each character and wouldn't have gotten it. Also, all of the things that make me giggle in the book...the sighing slightly patronizing doors...the tea that just can't be made....the whale! oh the whale...to name just a few things, weren't nearly as funny in the movie as they are in the books. I heard that Terry Gilliam was originally supposed to direct this flick and I think that's exactly what this movie needed....a hint of Python.

I really liked it.... mabey because Ive read the books and seen the original BBC movie.... but the only bad thing I about it would be that they had to cram too much good material into ONE movie... it should have come in a part one and part two so non fans of the series would know what all the fuss is about.... I liked the vogons they were done well.... they could have gave ford prefect some more lines/time onscreen, I always like his character... all in all B+ to A- in grade, worth seeing :)
