: WINTERTHRALL "Nightmares for the Sleepless" (Murderous Dark Records) This is the glorious and extremely long awaited debut album from this amazing band who perfectly knows how to combine the charms of melodic dark metal, the freshness of swedish black metal (Think Dissection, Dawn, Dark Funeral) and the furious brutality of death metal with even some flirting with the blastbeat technique so often used in grindcore. This make of this album an all-rounder with an extreme sense of versatility, enjoyable at every occasion. You can feel the full bodied Dark Funeral feel in "Cycles Of The Flesh" where the strong Blueberry finish can tickle your palate irresistibly...A finely sculpted wall of cutting guitar riffs layered with blasting drumming done with a diabolically efficient precision by world famous Rob Alaniz (also in Noctuary)...It is amazing how Rob can handle so many different techniques of drumming...from melodic stuff up to hyperblasting savagery. In contrast "Malevolence" is much more solemn and majestic, with piano interludes and a more melodic approach (Think Dissection. Dawn...the swedish feel is omnipresent in this album. "Edifice of Betrayal" has some more death metal riffing like Possessed/Morbid Angel...and still a swedish twist...think Dawn on their "Slaughtersun..." album, add to this the double vocals...and it is fantastic....no words to describe "In Frozen Apathy" this is my favorite song of this album..with a really Epic twist....simply breathtaking guitarwork, with a refreshing dark heavy metal feel....think Mercyful fate...it is a really epic song that reminds me my travelling in the Austrian Tyrol..... "Autumn Casket links fast and slow parts in a genious way. To sum up, a remarkably well played album with a clear, crisp, yet full bodied sound and this intense blackberry and lime finish on the palate, making Winterthrall a versatile band to be enjoyed at every occasion...and listened again and again....TRULY IRRESISTIBLE!. www.winterthrall.com
