Current mood:  focused
Over the years I have listened to this Guy and said he was one of the coldest. Recently he died from caner but what he has done will never be forgotten. I first saw him play the EWI on a video I saw back in the day and it was crazy!!!!! I first tried to play it but gave up because of the fact that the keys didn't move and I was not cool with that. I just recently picked it up in the last year and i'm loving it. Before Brecker died he sent Glen Darcy a executive at Akai a email talking about me and the ewi that I want to share with you guys.

From: Brecker Michael

Hi Glen,

Thanks for your email. It's great to be home again,
after a long
struggle in the hospital. I'm still really weak, but
I'll get
stronger again and be back to work!
Thanks for your prayers. It really helps.

I look forward to seeing the Mike Phillips video. I
think I'm his
biggest fan.

Anyway, I will let you know how things are
transpiring here. The EWI
was great in the hospital, until I got too sick to
play it after the
chemo damn near killed me! What a great instrument.

Talk to you soon and lot's of love,
Mike

We Love you Mike!!! Always!!!!!!!

Wow... Mike Brecker saying that he is your biggest fan... He's one of the best sax players of all time. And he is the originator of the EWI, I was jaw dropped when I watched him play "Song For Barry" on EWI for the first time. I remember falling asleep at night, and Michael Brecker's music was still playing in my room... His playing was so emotional...

His story resumes music, because he was able to play Pop, Jazz, Funk, Fusion, World Music, and even added some electronics (talkin bout the EWI...) and some Hip Hop flavor (Strap Hangin' is hot...)

Michael Brecker is an inspiration to most of the contemporary sax players, including me. And he seemed to be a nice person. I saw video, your video, Mike Phillips, when you pay hommage to Mike Brecker. He was still in hospital back then.

It shows me how important it is to thank those who influenced you.

And I'll take the opportunity to post this video I made recently, where I'm playing the EWI, to thank you, Mike Phillips.

Michael Brecker will always be in my heart (I hope he's jamming with James Brown, Alice Coltrane and all the greats who disappeared in 2007...)
Thanks for sharing this letter with us.

Just to be in Breckers mind for any fleeting moment is historic as you know dude.

Especially at a moment he was in complete health decline, he was getting a lift from you.

I had a chance to meet him and talk to him occasionally.
I can tell you they guy was so damn
cool when he'd walk in the room the temperature would drop..

He was a pure icon.
Same direction you are headed lil bro!
