Reposting this since I deleted all my old stuff. This was one of the newer ones and shouldn't have gone!
Little Bird
I put it in a cage My pretty little bird That it might learn to love me It sang a perfect song That only I heard So I thought it sang for me
I sat it on my shoulder And there it would stay Until the sky turned black One day I left the window open Little bird flew away And Pretty, no... Pretty never came back.
Later, waiting in the quiet still Well that tore my heart in two So I climbed up to the window sill And off I flew
I woke up in your gentle arms As you scooped me off the floor You said I'd never come to any harm And then you closed the door
Now I sit here in the Cage of your making My choking sorrow blue Your little bird With the broken wings And I might learn to love you
You put me on your shoulder Chose my ankle ring -- Oh! Choking sorrow blue I lost my Pretty long ago And I no longer sing -- so I'll close the window for you I'll close the window for you
