Current mood:  tested
Don't be scared, the reason i titled this message "Definite Hiatus" was because i'm tired of hearing all the bands that go on "indefinite hiatus."
We've got a bunch of incredible shows coming up in the next couple of weeks. Actually all of these shows are some of the most exciting ones we would have played all year!
July 3rd @ the Metro Gallery July 11th @ the Pillar for WolfDogBirdMan's new record release July 13th @ the Talking Head with amazing local singer/songwriter Abby Mott!
But after these shows, we will be talking some time off from playing live. This is for many reasons;
1) We'd like to start writing and recording for a new record. We've tried out a couple of new songs on you guys, but we still need to take some time out to tweak them and get them sounding the way they deserve to sound.
2) We are looking to add and expand our sound. Don't fret, no one is leaving... I did say ADD! There are just so many layers of melodies and harmonies on our record, that we have been unable to translate live for quite sometime. So we are looking to add more instruments to our performances, as well as work towards a much bigger sounding and more energetic 2nd album. If you think you or someone you know might make a lovely addition to our family, please feel free to touch base with us.
and finally...
3) For a while now, personally i have noticed myself becoming disconnected with the music and with my interaction with you guys...the listener. You guys are THE reason, i write, record & perform. I have always seen writing and recording and performing these songs as an art form. And art in it's simplest manner, is meant to connect with an audience.
Recently, i have found myself not focusing on that connection. I see myself more worried about booking shows, trying to get older songs to sound tighter, getting to shows on time, selling merchandise, and getting paid by a venue.
Really...these things are not important at all. What's important is the impression and impact you leave with your listener. I miss meeting new people and explaining to them that...there really isn't any secret meaning to our name. Or talking to kids about their lives, what music they like, and what that means to them.
Thats why i started writing music, i had ideas and believes i wanted to share, and could only hope that someone might listen, and take something from our songs and give it their own meaning.
It was never about money, or making a name for myself.
I've even had heat arguments with friends who tried to convince me the only way i'd leave a mark in the music world, would be to sell my songs.
It's become disorienting... playing with so many bands, and knowing so many people who worry about these kinds of things when it comes to music.
I feel like somewhere along my way, i've stepped into a bear trap set by these kinds of "musicians". I need some time to get loose from this trap, and find my footing again; remember why i play music. For Love, not glory!
Please try and come out to one of these shows. Not just for us, but for the other amazing bands we will be playing with!
I will do my best to remember who i'm singing for....you guys!
But do not worry. We will be back soon enough...and better then ever.
Remember! Love, not glory.
