The Empty Space is now accepting submissions and proposals for the 2009 original short-play collection Project: Sin.  2009 marks the fourth year of The Empty Space’s Project series; each a collection of short plays written by local authors, dealing with a particular theme.  Previous years have been Project: Murder, Project: Ghost, and Project: Turkey Day

This year the theme is the 7 Deadly Sins -
Envy- Resentment of the good which befalls or may befall others.
Gluttony- Excessive consumption of anything to the point of wastefulness.
Greed- Overwhelming desire to possess material things for no purpose but possession.
Lust- Any uncontrolled, bestial craving, but most often of a sexual nature.
Sloth – Indolence and complacency extreme to the point of avoiding any effort whatsoever.
Vanity- An inordinate concern with one’s own status, appearance, or value.
Wrath- The fury which exists only to destroy, with no real concern for bettering the world.
Project: Sin will be a series of seven 10 minute plays or long monologues, each of which will express the theme of one of the sins.  We are actively looking for a mixture of comic and dramatic pieces for a balanced evening.

There are two ways you can submit your work for this project.  First, if you have a completed original play which you believe fits the theme of one of the sins, you may email it to WarlockWarren@gmail.com with Project: Sin clearly in the subject line.  Please copy and paste your piece directly into the body of the email, and do not send it as an attachment.  If you don’t have an electronic copy of your play at this time, you may bring a copy to The Empty Space if you arrange an appointment by calling 661-327-PLAY.

Secondly, if you would like to write a piece particularly for this project, please send a proposal following the contact information above.  A submission must include the following: a description of the piece you’d like to write, including a general plot outline.  You will also need to include a one page writing sample.  This doesn’t have to be dialogue you intend to use for your piece, but it should be a characteristic sample of your writing for the stage.

The deadline for Project: Sin proposals is Friday, July 31st, so get your creative self in gear, and don’t miss this fantastic opportunity.  If you have any questions about Project: Sin or the submission process, contact the coordinator of this project Ron Warren at WarlockWarren@gmail.com, or call the theatre at 661-327-PLAY.

Happy Sinning!
