Credo Cricket Laneway Carnival, Round 2 – Friday 20th
February, 2009@ Westwood place (Home of Salvo 614)....

What a round in .Westwood Place it was: high drama, loads of tension and of course heaps of fun. All the teams participating are playing with great spirit, friendship and enthusiasm for this great game of laneway cricket. This competition is bringing out the best in
people, whether they are from behind a desk or sleeping in the streets of Melbourne. Everyone is equal in the laneway.

Game 1 – Round 2  - Milk Craters  - (AWT/CredoCricketers) Vs Dumpsters - (Lazarus Centre/PwC)

What a classic! One of the best games of laneway ever played. It started with a consistent batting innings by the Dumpsters who won the toss. The Dumpsters uncovered a player as Izzy “The Destroyer” belted the ball all over the lane with some huge hitting backed up by Sharee an setting the Milk Craters 90 runs to get! A very respectable total indeed. Kieran from the Milk craters was the pick of the bowlers with 3 valuable wickets.

The Milk Craters came into bat and got off to a solid start. The teams were neck and neck throughout the innings, highlighted by Woodsy playing a stroke through the Bourke Street Gap (1 metre in width) for an amazing 12 runs. But it all came down to the last over with the Milk Craters needing 7 for victory as Koos and Brad came to bat. Dylan the bowler from the Lazarus Centre was hit for 6 first ball, then got a beautiful wicket off the second 3 runs from the third ball and it
was all tied up with one ball left in the match. This one was close! The air
was tense with the smell of sweat, dumpsters and sausages. The crowd waiting on
the edge of their bins (literally). The bowl came in, Koos hit the wall, they ran
one - that’s 2 - RUNS!!!!!!!!!!! The Craters win! The Craters win! Hugs, laughs,
disappointment! The players shook hands with mutual appreciation, the crowd
cheering. Now that’s Laneway Cricket! ....

Game 2 – Round 2 -Bin Juices -

(Salvation Army 614/Cricket Victoria) Vs Alley Cats - (Middletons/Living Room).

Game 2 was not as close as the first but it was just
as exciting, with the Bin Juices achieving the highest score in Laneway
history. They smashed 104 runs, Jason the pick of the batters scoring a massive
42 runs (including 3 huge 12’s) in his time at the crease. He and Pommy scored
an impressive 53 runs in the opening batting pair. After a shaky start the
Alley Cats gave themselves a chance with some great bowling and fielding. Micah
was the pick of the bowlers for the Alley Cats with only 6 runs scored from his
2 overs. This was highlighted by some inventive celebrating by “Stretch” when
he got a wicket and the rocket arm of Sonya. The Alley Cats put up a brave run chase with the girls from Middletons showing the boys how it’s done. Led by Laneway veterans Charlene and Sonya top scored with 21 runs a piece, their team powering to a fighting 78 runs. Being set a huge total they could have crumbled but the Alley Cat spirit rose to the occasion. A big kudos to debutant Deb who improved as the game went on. She is a player to watch in the future! That’s it from me until we hit the lanes again next week @ ....Union
Lane.....
