I wrote that poem in 2003 before anybody was really talking all that much about 2012 or the Cardinal alignments of 2010-2015. Now it seems everyone hears the call or at least there is a cacophony of voices crying that The End is near. It is –just not like you might think. The beginning of AN End came awhile back, and since then we have been in between Worlds –in between Times. But I think perhaps soon we will begin to arrive in or birth the next World. Before I explain however, allow to me go back and start at the beginning.

Being born in April of 1968, and therefore conceived during “the Summer of Love”, in my youth I often wondered if I would ever come to live in times as exciting as those during which I gestated (The Uranus-Pluto conjunctions). In fact, during my college years I did indeed witness a similar surge in the development of human affairs with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of Communist Europe (The Uranus-Neptune conjunctions). It was at this time that I became an astrologer via an amazing Dream in which I was shown planetary alignments.

As an astrologer, I have of course looked toward the next major outer planet events. I have undertaken a thorough analysis of the Uranus-Pluto cycle and its coming square. I have dubbed these squares the “Coming Storm” because it seems obvious to me that the conjunction that stirred up so much trouble in the modest sign of Virgo should certainly manifest some stormy weather when it opens to square in the Cardinal signs of Aries and Capricorn. Then there is the fact that because of a peculiar “co-incidence” of their retrograde motions there will be seven exact squares (that’s right seven!) spanning a period of nearly three years. Outer-planet alignments are rare enough and clearly this is not a “garden –variety” outer-planet event.

The most recent past Uranus-Pluto squares were 1932-34. These were the closing or waning squares as Uranus moved toward conjunction with Pluto in the 60’s. Now we are moving toward the Uranus/Pluto opening squares which begin in 2012. However, even this more than 100 yr cycle is dwarfed by another phenomenon which has been leading up to it.

Ever since Pluto made the ingress to Sagittarius in the mid 90’s, all three trans-personal planets are occupying trans-personal signs. The outer planets, Uranus/Neptune/Pluto are called trans-personal planets because they make a revolution of the Sun beyond an individual lifetime –thus they are seen as significators of collective issues.  Similarly, the last four signs of the Zodiac are all about collective issues. The first four signs, Aries –Cancer, are personal signs where the relationship is to self –through dealing with primal, instinctive, survival based issues (Jupiter and Saturn were here at 9-11). The second four signs, Leo-Scorpio, are inter-personal signs, where the self relates to another -through dealing with social and relationship issues. The last four signs, Sagittarius –Pisces, are trans-personal signs, where the self relates to the collective –through dealing with universal, transcendental issues...

After 2008, the Trans-personal planets are now lined up in reverse order, occupying the last three trans-personal signs of the Zodiac in a trans-personal crescendo. As I outlined in my 2008 lecture at the United Astrology Congress, this has happened only a few times in the History of Western Civilization. In 2010, this fifteen year period of trans-personal emphasis will end dramatically as Uranus enters Aries.

In between, we have been living through a sort of time between times. Pretty much everyone agrees that the Fall of the Towers in 2001 represents the End of the World as we knew it. Saturn was opposite Pluto at that time and then went on to oppose ..Neptune.. and Uranus –progressively activating the trans-personal crescendo outlined above. It is interesting to note that the same basic energies of the mid-life crisis are being played out on the World stage right now. Saturn is interacting with these energies in the same order as the personal transits of outer planets to natal placements are being experienced by the current generation at mid-life: the Pluto quartile return; the ..Neptune.. quartile return; and the Uranus demi-return. Through successive oppositions to these same planets, Saturn is polarizing these issues on the World stage so that we are forced to become more aware personally. Saturn opposite Pluto, Neptune and now Uranus has brought up many important social questions. This questioning represents a sort of collective mid-life crisis.

Since the Mundane or Earth Cross made by the Cardinal signs of the Zodiac marks the beginnings of the 4 seasons on Earth, I believe that perhaps Uranus’ entrance to Aries and the Cardinal Crisis alignments of 2010-2015 will represent Us collectively beginning to come out on the other side of this process.

However, even compared to the monumental trans-personal crescendo I have identified and outlined above, there is yet another cycle happening which dwarfs all of the alignments I’ve talked about so far. This is the 2012 phenomenon. Essentially this is an alignment between the Earth’s axis (composed of the solstice and equinoctial points) and the Galactic axis –which moves in a complete cycle over a period of about 25,800 years. So, about every 6,450 years one point of the Galactic Cross aligns with one point of the Earth Cross. You can read more specifics about the astronomy behind this alignment HERE.

Obviously, this cycle dwarfs the period which we call History and so we do not really know what the hell to expect. We do know the Maya were definitely aware of this phenomenon and deeply fascinated by it –to the extent that they predicated the beginning and ending points of their incredibly intricate calendar to it. If you want to read a scholarly interpretation, it is my opinion that Dr. Stanislov Grof is saying the same basic thing I am about to state (though in a much more elaborate, researched and thorough fashion).

As a Shamanic Astrologer I can definitely explain the basic quality of the Mayan cultural beliefs which frame this event. ..December 21st, 2012.. (13.0.0.0.0 in the Long Count) represents an extremely close conjunction of the winter solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator and the Ecliptic. This intersection is what the Maya recognized as the “Sacred Tree." You can read some specifics on this concept HERE

On a much more basic level, to understand the Mayan fascination with this alignment you simply have to understand that they were a Shamanic or Magickal culture. The intersection of the Ecliptic and the Galactic Equator symbolized for them the "Sacred Tree" or what we might call the "Axis Mundi." For Shamans the Axis Mundi or World Tree (sometimes also symbolized by a mountain such as Mt Olympus or Mt Fuji) has always symbolized–across many diverse cultures -basically a portal between Worlds.

In brief, my personal interpretation of the amazing confluence of all this astrological information (and there is more) is that the progressive oppositions by Saturn to each of the Outer planets (who are in the last 3 signs of the Zodiac -something which only occurs approx every 600 yrs) in the first decade of this century has been activating an extremely vast Galactic energy which is about opening some kind of Gate or Portal between World’s or Times-and that we have been "in between" worlds/times for awhile now (at least since 9-11). ....

But perhaps the Cardinal alignments which begin next year (and go through 2015) represent Us beginning to come out the other side of this portal/wormhole. We are essentially collectively Re-Birthing into a ..New World... I don’t really expect this process to be fully complete until the Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions finish their mutations into the Air signs in 2020, but I definitely see the conjunction of Jupiter-Uranus at the Vernal Point of 0 Aries next year as the first glimpse of “the light at the end of the tunnel/birth canal.”

Uranus’last transit of Aries saw some of the scariest events in modern history including the stock market crash of 1929, the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and the rise of Nazi power.

Yet, Jupiter alignments with Uranus near the foundational points of the tropical Zodiac often occur simultaneously with dramatic breakthroughs like Lindbergh's crossing the Atlantic or Armstrong's "giant leap for mankind." This process is also going deeper, inviting each of us to dive down deep into the foundations of our (galactic) being-ness and find the source of our own personal breakthroughs!!!

The double dose of Mars (Uranus is the real “higher octave” of Mars) is likely to make you feel bulletproof, however you are not -so try to make sure if you are sacrificed it is for something you believe in. Pluto at the top of your chart makes you a force for change in the World, but purely selfish aims are likely to backfire. You are a born leader, idea man/woman and inventor so get to work! This is an individual who could be very important to the Uranus-Pluto revolution. After Uranus wakes up the personality, spurring the individual to idealistic action, Pluto in the career house can introduce him/her to the real movers and shakers. The tremendous idealism of this placement may become a force for change.
