GUN KING$
The new GUN KING$ were established in June 2007 and play for Advanced Alabama Adventures (AAA) Paintball Park in Sterritt Alabama. Reds Extreme Paintball in Alabaster, Alabama is also a proud sponsor, offering discounts on equipment, paint, clothing and other gear. The current roster consists of 33 players and the target membership is 40 members. Tryouts are conducted at each of our events as hopeful members join us as invited guests and are voted on by current members based on various criteria such as sportsmanship, skill level, personality and team chemistry.
The team has competed in five events in 2007 and has been on the winning side each time. The GUN KING$ have been voted Most Valuable Team (MVT) in three consecutive events. The following is a brief synopsis of those events and also a look ahead at 2008.
Our first event was Fire Base Charlie at Paintball Quest in McCalla, Al. The GUN KING$ were a brand new team and we were assigned to make up the US side against all other players at the event. The event total was 65 players and there were 23 GUN KING$ present. The temperatures rose to 104 degrees and though outnumbered and experiencing attrition due to heat exhaustion…the GK played through and won the event for the US side against the VC and the NVA.
Next on the calendar was the Ft McClellan MOUT game (DEA V/S The Cartel) and the GK was assigned to play for the Cartel. The event totaled approximately 170 players and the 2-day event was won by the Cartel for the first time in the event series history. Well-known teams in the Scenario world such as The Hired Gunz and AssasinNation manned the DEA but fell to the relentless pressure applied by the GK.
An October trip to Bear Claw Paintball Park in Fayetteville, TN had the GK playing against the well-known teams listed above as well as many others such as Pub Crawling, Section 8, and The Black Hearts as 662 players registered to play. The GK played for the Japanese side and once again walked away victorious…this time however, the GK were awarded the MVT award for outstanding play.
With Christmas approaching, the GK decided to play the Toys For Tots game, Santa V/S Frosty produced by 24HourGames in Dalton, GA. The GK played for Frosty, and after an extremely hard-fought 2-day battle with over 300 participants, came out on the victorious side yet again. A second MVT was earned at this event and the GK was also listed as a sponsor for the game with a donation of 18 toys and $360.
The final event of 2007 season was the Player Appreciation event held at Bear Claw in Fayetteville, TN. With close to 200 players it was quite the showing for a game scheduled between Christmas and New Years. The GK played for the Insane Inmates and squeaked out a victory over the Keystone Cops after a close fought 24-hour scenario that saw many lead changes. The third MVT was awarded to the GK as well as a sportsmanship award from the opposing team commander.
