Hot Maegus – The BIG BLOG
Where we are now
2008 has been a busy but very enjoyable year for the three of us and we haven't reached the end of it yet. We've played some great gigs at over 20 venues from music pubs to beer festivals playing our versions of rock and blues covers plus several original numbers penned by Jonnie. You may have heard some of these when we were featured on Hertbeat FM back at the beginning of October. We're currently taking time out from gigging and preparing to record a promotional CD. Hopefully this will be done at the Farm Factory in Welwyn Garden City towards the end of November. Then the gigs start again. The first opportunity you'll have to see us will be on Friday 12 December at the Golden Griffin in Hertford.
Some Highlights of the Year
The Old White Horse in Baldock. We started the year off playing at their New Year's Eve party. It was slow to get going but once we got them up and dancing they wouldn't let us stop and the gig went on way over time. A really good start to 2008 for us
Eternit Sports & Social Club in Meldreth near Royston back in February. A great venue with good acoustics and an appreciative audience, hopefully we'll be back there in the New Year.
The Old Bull's Head in Ware. We played here twice during the year, in March and again in August and had a terrific time on both occasions. A really good crowd who love their rock and the sound in the pub is great.
The Royston Arms in Chingford. We picked the only night of the winter when it snowed to play there which kept many of the regular punters at home. However, those that braved the elements loved our brand of rock & blues and we'll be back there after Christmas.
The Lord Roberts in Sandy. A great little pub with punters that love their rock 'n roll and brought along their air guitars to help us out. We played there twice and look forward to going back again in the New Year.
Royston Town Football Club Beer Festival. This event took place back in May and thankfully was under cover as it poured with rain all day. We were one of four acts who took part during the afternoon and the place was packed and really rocked. A great afternoon and we can't wait to get back there next year.
The Wheatsheaf at Duxford. A tiny little pub and we wondered how we were going to squeeze all the kit in but we did and had a great night back in June. They invited us back at the end of August to take part in their outdoor Bank Holiday music festival. It was a great evening and we hope they repeat it and invite us next year.
The Kings Arms in Saffron Walden. A great venue with terrific acoustics. We played there in July and again in September, unfortunately on both occasions we clashed with other music events in the town and played to small audiences. We'll be back there again in 2009 and hopefully fill the place.
The Marquee in Hertford. We played a last minute gig there back in September, it wasn't advertised and we only played to a handful of people. However, the sound system there is the bee's knees and the sound technician really knows his stuff. He had everything cranked up and we loved it, sounding the best we've ever been. Can't wait to get back there with a properly advertised gig and a full house.
