Who Gives Kudos:

Saturday, November 21, 2009
a week on Monday [the 30th of November] I shall be cycling on the Ernest Lumley [ my pet name for my bicycle] north to Burnley and beyond, armed with just 17 songs and my harmonica. Optimism is in the air at Heaton Acres, however, and the new band have swallowed the new songs whole and spat them out as country nuggets. Obviously in these current climes of X Factor domination and Jordan and Andre getting back together for a Christmas single [don't bet against it], we have to be patient. These indeed are low times for a high brow singer and it would be tragic for us to lose home grown artists such as Hawley, Cocker and Heaton, to the passing storm of The Cowell Dollar and the plastic breast. We must cling to the rocks together, safe in the knowledge that this storm, like all those before it, will pass or burn itself out, battering the very rocks we cling to. Then slowly we shall rise- Tilbrook, Costello, Morrissey, Difford, Heaton, Hawley, Cocker, Weller, Bragg and many more, til next year will finally herald the return of something we thought we'd lost, the sweet call of the English Songbird!

Another great read Paul.. im so happy that you think all the X Factor stuff is crap too! I cant believe peoiple actually buy it when we have great british born song writers still producing great music.  With you being one of my biggest influences and idols in a way im really happy you mentioned Tilbrook and Difford and Mozza, who I also love!  Dont worry mate, you can take comfort in the fact that you have many loyal fans and that there are still people out there who think Andre and X factor etc are crap and real music comes from people such as yourself!

Can't wait to hear the new stuff Paul......would be great if all the reality / X-Factor type shows didn't exist or at least they were banned from the charts.....what a difference the charts would look like then. Do I care about the charts...well not really but would be nice if the talented people actually got recognition for once. Hopefully see you in Whelan's again next year? Or maybe the Academy....

Couldn't agree more, only this morning I have been having a facebook rant about those 2 bloody idiots who lost at the weekend, having not seen the xfactor as I refuse to watch it, I didn't realise what incoherent blathering idiots they were, no wonder they cant sing when they struggle to string a sentence together, it infuriates me these shows continue to pedal these talentless youngsters as "stars" the children in need concert was proof of that, "the voice"(hmmmm) Leona Lewis gave a less than mediocre performance to be followed by Annie Lennox who trounced her!!

Let’s just hope there is a new dawn!!!
