It's time, once again, for the punk rockin’est car show in the Midwest. Yes, boys and girls, we're talking about Greaserama- brought to you by your local car club, Los Punk Rods. As well as being one of the best and biggest collections of kustoms, hot rods, gassers, slingshots, lead sleds, buckets, beaters and choppers, it's also host to what is becoming an underground music spectacular. This year we have 12 bands playing over the course of the weekend. All are hand-picked by Los Punk Rods for your listening pleasure. A couple have actually re-formed and resurrected their old Rock-n-Roll bones especially for this show. We have everything from 'get drunk and drive your car through the police station' twang to face-melting hardcore- plus everything else in between. One band will be coming all the way from Australia to play- so let's get to it, shall we?
Friday, September 4th, we'll kick off the weekend with our pre-party at the Record Bar, 1020 Westport Rd., Kansas City, MO 64111. (This is the last time you'll be able to pre-register your car for Greaserama; a booth will be set up outside from 7pm-10pm.) This night will showcase a couple of hardcore bands that were among the first in their respective towns. Johnny Sic will open the night with his resurrection of Choke, KC’s original hardcore band. Playing second- but head-lining the show- will be Ultraman, from St. Louis. Ultraman has re-formed their original line-up for this show only. This will be an opportunity to see one of the region's premier hardcore acts, and a favorite at the Outhouse in Lawrence during the Eighties. Closing the evening will be Bloodfeast, KC’s undead tribute to the Misfits.
Saturday, Sept.5th, doors for the Car Show open at 12:00 p.m. with music starting at 1:00. The show is at the Boulevard drive-in, 1051 Merriam Ln., Kansas City, KS 66103. Saturday’s line-up will kick off with some good ol' boy Tennessee country provided by Pee Wee Moore and the Awful Dreadful Snakes; The Afterparty, a great indie band from Kansas City will follow with more twangy delights; then we'll have an encore presentation of Bloodfeast. 'Why?' you ask? Because we can. To finish the day we have killer fuzz garage rock from St Louis- The Nevermores; and, coming all the way from Australia, the explosive front-man from the Onyas, Mad Macka.
Sunday, Sept 6th, the hearing loss clinic will continue at the Boulevard drive-in; car show starting at 12:00 and music starting, once again, at 1:00. The first band on the day’s bill will be our local church choir- Sister Mary Rotten Crotch. You might want to keep the children away for this set. Up next we have psychedelic garage rockers- The Bleachbloodz. Then, Mad Macka will perform again. Why? Because he drove all the way from Australia! AND Because he fucking kicks ass. Our last band, Adam Lee & the Dead Horse Sound, will ease us back into the sad reality that another Labor Day weekend with Los Punk Rods is coming to a close.
Don’t be a sucker. Go to Greaserama!
