February 17th - March 1 was the WAVES for Development Pilot Project in Lobitos.
While not always possible in a rural coastal community, WAVES did it's best to have a nuetral to postive impact on the physical environment. Here's how:
+ Class materials, including educational workbooks were printed on recycled paper.
+ Organic scraps from the kitchen were saved and given to a community member to feed her pigs.
+ Water was filtered (when there actually was water - more on that another time) and bought in 5 gallon jugs to avoid using a riduculous amount of single-use water bottles.
+ Fruit and vegetable seeds were saved and planted in a school garden area.
+ Over 20 garbage bags of trash were collected from the beach
