The stage had been set, the lights were up, the mic was on, it all seemed like the blink of an eye before they were all as we had found them and we were off to the next port of call. Not as detriment to the venues and crowds, far from it. With half hour sets to be honed and fired off to gain maximum impact with the time restraints, we found ourselves wanting. We were just getting warmed into the set by the time our last number came along. We found the limelight to be the most selfish of lovers, luring us to it’s loins when it needed us to fill it’s needy void and then casting us out when it’s had it’s fill, regardless of our state of arousal. We were in need of catharsis to settle us down. A full blow out that would transform us from walking hard-ons to a spent gooey mass ready to roll over and forget the prospect of tomorrow until tomorrow.
This came in he unlikely form of a Sunday gig in Grimsby. Booked as headline act the support band "Ram-Raid" set the tone of the evening with aplomb (those Kids can play), coupled with the extraordinary hospitality of our Biker hosts there was a good feeling about this. Show time was upon us and we were a far cry from the half-bright souls that turned up outside the yard birds for sound check, two forty-five minute sets were required but we were having so much fun we didn’t want to pull out for a second. Over an hour and a half went by with two encores and finally we left the stage, breathless, sweaty and totally spent.
