So, you were either there or you weren't?If you werent there dont bother reading on as this blog will only tease you as to what transpired on that fateful evening in the cobblestone.
We had organised the gig for my birthday as a free in gig showcasing some mighty fine home grown talent.To be honest it was the lonely schizophrenics last gig for the year so we were going to go out with a big bang!We hired a vintage bus to take us into town from Tallaght and it was fucking hilarious. Sitting on a 14 seater bus from the 1950's,drinking fine champagne passing by the peasants at the bus stop brought a certain joy and warmth to the my heart lol.We did our best to have some composure and not shout "pover"at them as we knew it might end up in a fight on the night link home.We do not condone violence in anyway but we must warn you to be careful on the night link.Get a taxi its safer.
Apart from the bus we had engaged some mighty fine acts to amuse and entertain us for the evening namely Marcus Carkus,Al Marshall,Ciara Ashmore,Andy Delamere,wayne brennan,Cillian foster (GDC),Anto Furey with spoken word from Sir Stephen James Smith and some madness from ourselves.
So on our arrival we entered the venue to be greeted by the worlds worst shout of "surprise".Didnt really matter as i had organised this for myself.Senor Carkus took to the stage and amused us with some funny banter in betwen songs.His Cat stevens cover, cant fucking think what one it is but i have the tune in my head...was fucking hilarious...one word went wrong and i started giggling like a fat schoolgirl going through a mcdonalds drive through.My laughter was putting markus off who sang the rest of the song with tears in his eyes.He either found it very funny or he knew he wasnt getting mcdonalds either.Roche material and one of my favourite songs missipi wine was to follow after. Fuck me pink this guy has a talent.Id really love to hear some more of his own stuff.Get the fucking finger outt markus!
Next up was Scotlands own troubador and a guest we have had everytime we could possibly have him. Al's songs have greeat lyrics,great rythm and really nice melodies.This guys is one of my favourite singers and should be going places.If he pays for his bus ticket that is.Cheapo scots man!seriously al, a great solid set and thank you for explaining the smell of baby sick.
Our next invitee to the session unfortunately had to visit the clinc, brian mcgovern was getting his genital warts removed by a vetrinary surgeon in cork as no doctor in their right mind in dublin or the whole of leinster would touch him.Did i say vetrinary surgeon?I meant butcher.Get well soon brian!
Ciara ashmore was ropped in(instead of warts mcgovern) with the promise of a few pints to fill in for him. I never did buy those pints but Ciara done an admirable job all the same. I fell in love with Ciaras voice when i first heard her in the axis centre at the peanut club about two years ago and I even went as far as to buy one of her CD's on it she had a cover of "dont ya" loved it!. Seriously distinctive lilt in her voice and a great singer.Always gets people to listen when she sings.
Next on the line up was ourselves.I dont like describing ourselves but we got a good reception and some laughs especially when i forgot some of the lyrics of "living in a box" our new song about bosko (spelled with a k for legal reasons) oh and our other new song "premature".Enjoyed it immensley.Andy heally played percussion,vlad on bass,andy on guitar and me on on vocals.Thanks for playing lads!
Our next performer was Andy Delamere,he primarily does his own thing and then plays with us as a fill in(come full time with us andy).A very talented musician writing his own style of tunes that I think are great.Again my opinion would be biased here but the bloke is shit hot.And a ride...oh and he was the child out of the loreal adds in the 80's....sorry andy but you know you are worth it.
After andy was Wayne Brennan,wayne has some serious guitar skills.His set was absolutely fucking flawless.only thing was the crowd had,at this stage gotten too inbreated and wouldnt listen to the tracks being played. For the people up the front who did listen it was,as always a very strong and enjoyable performance!Andy heally played percussion and done backing vocals and whats more to say?if you have seen them before you know you are in for a great show!
Cilllian foster was next.Like Al marshall he is a long standing supporter of us.As per usual he got up and performed a flawless set thats everyone enjoyed!I was however distracted by a pineapple on my table and a swiss roll.WHo the fuck gives someone a present of a pineapple?Really appreciate all the support over the past gigs and the advice you give me from time to time mate!Thank you ever so much!
Anto furey got up and played an amazing set. The tracks i heard with stephen brannigan on mandolin? were great.I was kinf of shit faced at this stage and jazz from bruxelles was wearing leiderhosen and it was all getting a bit much for me lol!I was honoured to have Anto there for my birthday party.

Stephen james smith got up intermittently between the last few acts and gave us some spoken work that completely blew us away. For a bloke thats about 6 foot tall and looks like he owns two horses and has a nissan micra with blacked out windows,16" rims,4 exhausts, a spoiler off a 747 and "silver shadow" down the side of his poxy car he is pretty talented.On a serious note,this guy runs an open mic in the international bar on a monday night.Pop down for a pint,its a great night to behold.Just dont bring your bird.
Id like to thank everyone who came on the night,it was an excellent night with loads of chilled out buzzers and a good bit of craic!
Especially id like to thank each of our perofmers for their time,they each had about 25 minutes on stage and whatever magic the were working the audience loved it and so did i.
Right so im off to work,oh before i go, i just want to tell you stephen brannigans a cunt.Ah he isnt really a cunt but im not going to let the truth get in the way of a good story now am i?
