Thursday, December 06, 2007
Two long-unreleased Keith Richards songs will finally hit eardrums on December 11th when iTunes makes available Richards' versions of Chuck Berry's "Run Rudolph Run," originally released in 1979, and a cover of Toots & the Maytals' "Pressure Drop" from 2003.

More inside info regarding the recording sessions coming tomorrow!

Edited for accuracy 12/8/07.

brilliant news! i sure hope a CD release is planned too.
the Department of Historical Accuracy would like to note, though, that Keith recorded Run Rudolph Run in december 1976; it was first released in december 1978, backed with The Harder They Come (which was recorded in august/september 78).

I have the original 7 inch 45 rpm disc right here in front of me for "Run Rudolph Run" with the date 1979 imprinted on it.
I also have the Japanese EMI import version of it, which I also bought many moons ago when it came out, in 1979.
The date stated in this website's blog is correct.

smile: well ... no it isn't. the blog entry above states that Run Rudolph Run was *recorded* in 1979, which *isn't* correct; it was recorded in 1976, as i've noted and as the subsequent blog entry clarifies. release dates very often vary from country to country, but in any case the above blog entry (and i guess the press release as well, since NME also got it wrong) is incorrect about the recording date.

but the main news is this new release - and i still hope there's a CD release planned as well, since itunes ain't anywhere near real enough! please please please make it available on CD - that will be say-hallelujah time

smile: thanks for correcting that "recorded in 1979" bit!
i'll triplecheck the source that says it was first released in december 78,
but your correction lets the Historical Record rest easier. :E thanks & praises!

okay, that was quick!
the details from James Karnbach in the next blog entry confirm december 1978 as the US release date for the single; in the UK it didn't come out until january 1979. hope that helps! and thanks again for keeping things as accurate as possible.

er ... sorry, make that february 1979, according to Karnbach's details on the delayed UK release.
(is there no function that allows me to edit my comments? oh well!)
but in any case the *first* one sure seems to have been the december 1978 US release.

In case I don't make sense, I am referring to the release dates imprinted on the discs, not the dates when the track was recorded.
Either way, it is high time for a download version, so this re-release is good news for Keith's fans, as well as the issue of Keith's version of the Toots track.
