This one-woman play with music celebrates the life and times of four African American women of substance. The musical score is drawn from the heartfelt spirituals of the Deep South, the urban exuberance of the Jazz Age, and contemporary concert music.

Seeking:

One Female Actor Who Sings: Portrays four African American women: ex-slave and fiery abolitionist Sojourner Truth, renowned novelist and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, exuberant folk artist Clementine Hunter and fervent civil rights worker Fannie Lou Hamer. Extremely versatile actress needed. Must have strong command of language and physicality to embody these four distinct and passionate characters at various life stages, from ages 30 - 80. The actress will sing one or two folk songs / spirituals in the show.
