Had my first show I headlined. (By myself. In the past, I've co-headlined with Norm MacDonald). It was at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, California. Jokoy opened for me. He was hilarious. Then it was my turn. Had them laughing for about forty minutes. Then, nothing. For about fifteen minutes, I did jokes that always get a laugh and they just stared at me. What's going on, I thought. I started to sweat. Keep going, I thought. I'm getting paid, I better finish the rest of my act. Suddenly, it occured to me the air conditioning was off. It felt like it was about 90 degrees up on stage. "Are you guys really hot?" I asked. "Yeah", came the answer, slow and dreary like. So, I went into the music portion of my show. And slowly, I got the audience back. Well, most of them, anyway. Afterward, one woman came backstage. I said, "I don't know why the audience stopped laughing". And said to me, "Well, you had the unfortunate experience of following someone who was hilarious". Hmmm.... Well, I guess the show wasn't a total loss. Thank God for Jokoy!!!

I give you a lot of credit Jon. Stand-up is tough. I used to do stand-up a while ago, but I had one bad show and I quit. I have studied film eversince at USC, expoloring my behind-the-camera talent. Although,  I have done some comedy with my appearance on Blind Date, but I could never do stand-up again.

Performing stand-up can be a great high when you get them laughing and crying, but on the flip side, it can be a great disappointment when you get silence. Great job and I love seeing you in various films!!!

Luv,

Julie Rose

I would've laughed as well.  You're funny.  I admire anyone who can get up on stage and try and make people laugh.  It's really a terrifying prospect.  It takes courage.

Jon,

I did not know that you had never done stand up. It is so cool to know that someone as famous and a great actor like you are had never done it. I am so happy for you! To know that you respect and love the art of stand up is just cool as hell. You are a great actor and I know you are or will be a great stand up too! Kudos!!!

Just goes to show you are a true professional John!

Here is a hint for some of the younger comedians - look up slang words on the internet and compare them to your own words in America. In one country in means one thing, and in another something totally funny or offensive. People always get a laugh out of that.

For instance - in America you have the word "Routing" as in cheering for your team. In Australia when Americans say "I'm routing for the American Olympics team", we are in hysterics because "Routing for the team" means having sex.

I'm seriously considering about puting in a phone line to make money via Americans calling me just to hear my Aussie accent. I could earn millions! I'll start talking to an associate in America via phone and they stop me by saying "Oh I DO love your Aussie accent so much"....... Now thats hilarious!
