Dearest Gothlings,
I would like to introduce to you a new type of "event" in the Goth scene which I like to call "Gothic Gatherings." These events are kind of like mini-convergences, a cheap and quick way for like-minded friends to meet somewhere new, interesting, fun, and above all, somewhere where one doesn't have to shout like a carnival barker in a friend's ear back and forth over pounding music. Within the year ahead, we will schedule such "outings" in location such as: picnics in Parks and Cemeteries, Museum and Gallery Exhibits, Renaissance Faires, Bars & Lounges, and other original and creative places to gather. Plus, we will also be focusing on coming up with more "All Ages" events to include the overlooked under 21 Goths that have openly aired their frustration of the abundant lack (I love oxymorons!) of things for them to do. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to share them with us! Moreover, if you truly want to support our scene, try to attend as many as possible.
The first Gothic Gathering will take place at Lillie's Irish Victorian Bar, close to Union Square Park in N.Y.C. (see listing on NewGothCity.com). Having the first Gothic meeting there serves several purposes: First, if you haven't been to Lillie's yet, and you have a fondness for the Victorian era, you will be blown away by the décor of this new bar. Secondly, we want to show the managers and owners of Lillie's that there is a better clientele for them to pay attention to other than "After-Work-Yuppies" who stare at any sport events happening on the flat screen televisions at each end of a long white marbled topped bar counter. And lastly, after receiving a
luke-warm review by Time Out New York Magazine, we'd like to convince the owners and managers to maybe, over time, on occasion, lower the lights a bit more, and perhaps plug in a certain "Goth inclined" iPod into their sound system (Pweeze?). We sure do hope you join us at Lillie's on August 9th, even for just one drink before heading home.
See you in the Dark!
Sir William Welles
