Okay, so I have to know. What is the etiquette when you go to someone's house to visit, stay a few minutes...you know....and you know that person has two people with two cars. If one car is not in the driveway, do you park in the empty spot? Even though it's not your house?

This has happened to me ever since I moved in with my hubby. People stop by (they know he's married), and park IN MY SPOT IN THE DRIVEWAY! What the HELL??? I would never drive over to someone else's place and do this. Is this just me? Am I wrong to be totally offended? I consider this totally rude!!!! I want to be able to park in my own driveway!

What do you all think? What's the eitquette here??? Do tell.

I agree with you. That is rude. I wouldn't do that either.

What if you have something to unload. You have to either honk the horn (which disturbs the neighbors), or park your car and then go in and ask them to move their car.

Your hubby should ask them where they parked. If they parked in your spot he should ask them to move.

The only time I EVER park in somebody else's driveway is if there is a big party and I know the cars are in the garage and there is no place else to park, or if I am invited to park there... And if I do end up parking in the driveway (like for a party) the first thing I say when I am greeted at the door is, 'hey - there was no place left to park so I parked in your driveway... is that o.k.?'

I drop my kids off at their dad's twice a week, I am there literally less than 2 minutes and I never park in his driveway!

If I know BOTH OF THEM well (or I happen to know person 2 will be gone for a while), I park in the empty spot in the driveway. If I don't know them well then I don't.

I'll add that parking at my house is not a big deal, nor is it limitted or in high demand by any stretch of the imagination. I am person with 1 car and a 2 car garage and a driveway just as wide... plus on a corner lot... so I've got convenient street parking galore. Approx 130 ft of valid street parking is my guess.

I do get miffed when strangers park on the street in front of my house tho, because FOR SURE there probably is a more convenient location for them to park their car which isn't in front of MY house, like say... how about in front of THEIR house?

... but then perhaps that's a touch persnickety on my part. It's not like I wanted to park there myself I suppose.

Thanks guys....Brent KNOWS I hate this, but for some reason doesn't have the heart to tell his buddies to move the car. Perhaps I will put a sign up there......'reserved for...oh hell, I don't know, the homeowner?' Jackie, I want your parking situation! ;) We do have a cul-de-sac that has extra parking in the middle...that isn't all that far from the house. I don't know. This has always been a huge pet peeve of mine....just curious what everyone else experienced! Thanks!

Ok, so first of all, I hope I haven't done this. If I come over I usually park in the cul-de-sac parking area. But if your car isn't there and Brent's is, I assume you aren't home and park there. If you did come home, I would, however, offer to move because I know that is your spot. I have had that happen to me. I don't really like it. Or when you are home and you are leaving and someone has come over and parked behind your car or along side the driveway and you can't leave. That's frustrating.

I don't think you have done this, but your Mom is guilty! ;) I think she thinks she has a special mother-in-law privilege or something.
