Current mood:  hungry

I was thinking to myself the other day about how excited I used to get on Tuesdays. For any music fan, you know Tuesdays are new release days. As a kid I was always looking forward to that day. I was the type that used to scan magazines and the postings at the record shop and memorize which of my favorite artists were dropping on what day. Ice Cube has a new one dropping? I'm there. Death Row Records release? I'm there. Wu-Tang related album. I'm there.  Kris Kross......I'm Sooooooooooo there. lol Gotta love the 90s. I even remember getting so backed up with stuff I wanted to purchase, I had to make a list of albums to buy once the dough came around.

Fast forward to the naughties AKA the 21st century. Tuesdays are not the same anymore. I can't remember the last time I was hyped to go cop a new release. Well, yes I can. Kanye West and Common. But there should be more than just that. I hate to sound like one of those aging hip-hop heads that always say that music isn't like it used to be, but truth of the matter is....it's not. We're in the age of singing about a 15 cent piece of candy and falling in love with pole magicians (not that there's anything wrong with that lol). I miss the innovation. I miss the newness. I miss the creativity. Everyone is a follower now. Rappers, we get it....you like crack, hustling, and strippers.

*sigh* Maybe I am turning into an old hip-hop head. Could be for the good. I'm out there searching for something to get me excited again. Right now, only Donnel Jones has me hyped. Can anyone recommend me something else?

I totally agree. Back in the day, I eagerly antipated new releases from a many artists, west and east coast. I could count on a Death Row affiliated artist or album release with many weeks or months or replay value. Surely, if a new Redman album dropped, I knew I had plenty of material to listen to for months. Not to mention Erick Sermon, Keith Murray, Suave House, and even some of the lesser known No Limit Soldiers had good material, not just one song out of 20.

Now, it's an extreme rarity that something comes out with more than 2 good songs. The subject matter is stale, dudes today simply cannot rhyme, and there are few "artists" trying to take the craft seriously.

I don't know if hip-hop music will ever return to the way it was in the glorious 90s.

FM RADIO , MTV , BET etc. KILLED HIP HOP!!!!THE INTERNET IS BREATHING LIFE INTO THE GAME AND ENABLING THE FANS TO CHOOSE THE KIND OF RELATIONSHIP THEY WANT TO HAVE WITH THEIR FAVORITE ARTISTS..NOT A PRGRAM DIRECTOR WHOSE IDEA OF ADVERSITY IS PLAYING A SONG 30+TIMES IN A DAY!!! (MIND YOU A SONG THAT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY PROGRAMMED AND HANDPICKED BY OLD WHITE PEOPLE FOR OBVIOUS REASONS!!) THEY'VE POISONED THE POOL AND AREAS WITHOUT A STRONG MAINSTREAM HIP HOP MOVEMENT (OR DJ'z WITH SOME HEART LIKE THE FUNK REGULATOR) ARE FORCED TO CONFORM TO WHAT WHITE PEOPLE TELL US WE SHOULD LIKE A ND LISTEN TO!!

THE SHIT IS TOO FAR GONE TO CRY ABOUT! EVERY ONE WHO LOVES THE WAY HIP HOP ONCE WAS SHOULD ASK THEMSELVES ARE THEY PART OF THE PROBLEM OR THE SOLUTION.

OTHERWISE STFU !!!

IF THE "DMV" AREA HAD ATLEAST ONE DJ OR RADIO PERSONALITY AS BOLD AND ORIGINAL AS GREG STREET(ATL) OR DJ KAY SLAY(NYC) WE'D BE ALRIGHT!! I UNDERSTAND THE RADIO HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN OUTLET FOR COMMERCIALLY SUCCESSFUL MATERIAL FOR THE MOST PART, BUT BRAINWASHING IS WHAT IT HAS TURNED INTO AND ITS BEEN A VERY SUCCESSFUL MANUEVER BY RADIO ONE TO WATER DOWN THE POTENCY OF THE BLACK EXPERIENCE IN AMERICA!!

JOB WELL DONE..LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS..:(

SUFFADON aka DON KING!

THE NEW ALBUM COMING SOON AND DONT FORGET TO CHECK THE NEW MIXTAPE
FEATURING THE BEST OF THE BEST IN THE DC AREA..NO COMMERCIAL BULLSHIT!!!(YALL KNOW WHERE TO GET THAT IF YOU NEED IT) AIIIII!!!!!!!!!

I'm in the same boat Heat. I'm 28 years old, and this music today...It might as well be one big ass song...Gotta also put some of the blame on these labels that don't MOLD these artists into stars anymore...it's all about 1st week sales now. I remember the record store days too..going to Sam Goody and the Wiz to get Cypress Hill's first joint..UGK's Ridin Dirty...Common - CAN I BORROW A DOLLAR!!!
Scarface - the untouchable...u bringin a tear to my eye..that's why we need you..THE DJ..to bring it back..half of these DJ's are playing singles that they don't even like!!! let's take it back to the days where DJ's actually BROKE artists cuz they're feeling them..not cuz they're paid to play it...

It's comin back though...
