Got myself into a bit of a pickle the other night. Tried to get some close friends to watch the "Neda" video with me.

Yeah, that one.

Having viewed it several times since its release, i've been very effected, and wanted to talk about it.

Giving them a brief description of what they were about to see, they all declined.

This is understandable.

However, I thought it important enough to press the issue. Considering that, for almost a decade, we weren't even allowed to see this...

No dice. I only succeeded in making everyone feel uncomfortable and eventually abandonded my pursuit.

I'm left with mixed feelings.

Yes, it's horrifying.

But, that's my point. Perhaps we'd all be a little/alot less apathetic if we saw this more often.

What do I know?

nothing.

I believe that her family is very shocked and there must be some other way than shoving how their young girl dieing in front of camera.

Right now a kid with a brain that could cure cancer is afraid of the crack dealers on the corner, and droping out. Children asking themselfes if they should stay at school or sell drugs. Mother trying to explain to her child why dady isn't comming from Iraq. Someone is so lonely and staring down a bottle of pills... wondering if anybody will notice. All of us... at one time reach out, offen to late for friendship, for hope, for love.

Yes, people... life is not a game.

I watched the Neda video. It was awful. And kind of bizarre that cellphones can put you right there on the front lines of a march happening around the world.

And I agree. Hiding the footage and trying to sanitize war makes us too willing to send our children into it. If we saw the reality of it, I think we would be a lot more careful.
