from the top of my head, there's been:   chapas bar, maddogs, club faces, (im not a brownsville native so i dont know em all).  my personal experiences in trying to work with venues to do shows has been pretty rough, in trying to land deals.  i know there's a lot of you brownsville people that want a venue.  but drop us a line and give us your input!

brownsville really does need a venue like chapas man. a lot of bands just have no where to lay it down.

Brownsville has always been a pain in the ass when it comes  original shows...and festival productions.... i know im from there..... Chapas was excellent while it lasted and Joe's on the Blvd...was kool ...the bEST WAS tHE rISING sUN BUT IT CLOSED..IN 2006 .......but ...all the commercial conglomerates and chain clubs are not kool about original.. music...quite possibly the only solution for Brownsville original rock bands..is to bring back......... The Rancho Parties .......of the 1970's and 1980's !!!  where hundreds and sometimes close to a thousand ppl.......high school and college students would gather to see all the kool local rock bands jam out until...sometimes 2 or 3 in the morning !  (somebody should do a history paper on this South Texas cultural phenomenom..!)
and if you were lucky  chances are the moms and dads would cookout ..make tamales..and Menudo for all the kids that would show up at these huge parties ! ..i know these kind of parties were popular all over the valley ..sometimes up to 15 kegs !   but i saw many of these in and around Brownsville....but they were done in Harlingen  and McAllen also.....

i guess maybe that could be the future of Rock and Roll in South Texas ..if Bands and Promoters unite and do these kinds of things......look to the past to make a brighter future   and back then there was no internet ! only little xerox flyers !
